Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?

You guys have probably seen the controversy surrounding the film by now, what are your thoughts? Excited? Depressed? A bit bored of the MCU to care?
For those of you who haven't been keeping track, Brie Larson decided to do the sadly unsurprising thing in the wake of Ghostbusters and Disney Star Wars and launch into Twitter tirades against men. End result? The opening predictions for the film have dropped by sixty MILLION in two weeks. This along with the controversial fact that Marvel has spent ten years building up to Infinity War only to have a character unknown to the films and not all that popular in the comics come along at the last minute to by all reports save the day.
And it should be noted for those who want to go the ''manbabies'' route: apart from a few usual suspects on both sides, Wonder Woman opened to commercial and critical acclaim. Men have no problems with superheroines. That is just a smokescreen to distract from other crap.

I think that it's a bit early to call it a failure since it doesn't even open till next month.

Anyways I've only heard that there were positive reviews and that people were downplaying it when they don't really have any business doing it anyway.

Even if I was a painfully insecure man that cared what a celebrity thought beyond their performance (which would prevent me from enjoying any Tom Cruise movie), I would still want to see the movie because:

1. I love Captain Marvel and have loved her since she was Ms. Marvel
2. Brie Larson is awesome.

How pathetic do you need to be to get your movie viewing needs from TWITTER?

My thoughts are that it's been completely blown out of proportion and is really not a big deal. Nor does it affect whether or not the movie will be good. Captain Marvel and the MCU will be just fine.

He's saying that since men did like those properties, so it isn't a case of them being biased against women.

And the point about appealing to gender diversity had to do with execution of an unknown character, which Wonder Woman isn't. And Black Panther was introduced in Civil War, so he didn't come out of nowhere I guess.
