The Marvel and Disney Buying the Critics Conspiracy Theory

Post by Winter »

So I just read a article that went on a long rant as to why Captain Marvel is doing so well critically and financially which pretty much boiled down to, "Disney is the one buying the tickets and bribing the critics to give the film good reviews." I.E. the Disney is buying the Critics Conspiracy Theory. I'm honestly surprised that this theory is still going on and that the theory has now expanded to include Disney just buying tickets for it's own movie.

Why is this theory still a thing? I mean if Disney had enough money to buy the tickets for it's own movie, while also bribing the critics to give it reviews that mostly just say, "It's a fun movie but nothing really that great." why bother with the movie at all?

Someone please explain to me why this CT is still going on and how it makes any sense.

PR. "Hey look! we made a superhero movie with a Strong Female Lead. Look at how Progressive we are, and how Talented and Creative we Are. See, even the critics and Audience agree!" /s

I mean, I do not believe Disney actually bought tickets. Captain Marvel doing well financially is to be expected because it's a MCU movie and the lead up to Avengers. That whole thread about it being "Marvel's first failure" really jumped the gun imo. Marvel has ten years of built up good will with people so and a much better run ship than let's say Lucasfilm under Kathleen Kennedy or Sony when they made that godawful Ghostbusters remake. The DCEU is a dumpster fire that is just getting put out. If Marvel was going to theoretically start bombing because of Brie Larson's comments it would have to be after this movie's release to start.

I would just like to say I don't believe conspiracy theories that extensive. I seriously doubt disney bought tickets and reviews. I would need some more evidence. That being said publicity is a little motivation, not enough to waste that amount of money, but people will reach for anything.

The Larson haters are desperate. It's embarrassing and nullifies any legit arguments they have. Worse, it casts a bad light on people trying to express legit criticism, which is indeed perfectly ok.

God dammit, if I'd known Disney would reimburse me for my ticket I'd have gone to Gold Class after all.

These dudebro brogressive SJWs said the same thing in 2016 - nobody could actually LIKE Clinton over Sanders, if you were voting for her or saying something positive online, it had to be that you were being paid by her and her campaign! I see nothing's changed in the past three years. Sigh...

To actually answer your question here, stupid me not reading your entire post, conspiracy theorists are probably sticking with this because of the rotten tomatoes deletion and stuff like Clark Gregg talking down to "haters"

In my experience, getting insulted tends to make you double down on your beliefs and make you grab any shred of an idea in desperation to be right.

I remember when I first heard of this conspiracy theory, it was soon after watching BVS in theaters and then reading about it while looking up reviews for the movie, mainly from people who were making fun of said theory. And then I found one that was all completely sincere in believing said theory and went over their "Evidence" for their case.

Long story short it involved a lot ignoring of real world facts, showing a review that was making fun of said theory and a lot of yelling about how Disney is rich and there for has the money to just bribe critics to say whatever they want them to say. Then came Wonder Woman and Iron Fist, with the former being a really great film that was a huge hit with critics and audiences that showed that DC could reach the heights on The Dark Knight while the latter was the MCU's first genuine flop in terms of critical reception and financial return.

Conspiracies are getting worse. The internet is making them seem legitimate to so many dumb people.

DC movies can do well even if the Universe is not humming like the MCU does.
