Doomcock is far more hesitant to call it more than rumour. Let's hope, the problem is that Kurtzman is but one cog. I have little hope we'll get the Trek equivalent of the Orville out of this.

Frankly the Orville is the post Voyager series we should have got. Not Enterprise, not Discovery. This.

Early test screenings for the Picard series being awful is, frankly, everything I expected. It's only rumors, but it's very possible it's not gonna live up to our expectations.
My only hope is when we reach the day when finally, tech has advanced so much one kid in the future on that time's equivalent of an average salary could download an app, perhaps even a free app, our equivalent of a CD, that lets them digitally edit software so it's completely realistic CGI, complete with voice synthesizers from his own voice. You say the lines, you can get them to be tweaked to sound differently. And thus, you'll have Star Trek's salvation, finally! Some dedicated fan just rework the problems with the timeline to fix what CBS has done! Two problems, ironically, is that one being by the time that era comes, Star Trek will probably already be in the public domain, and two, is that it won't be this century, thus most fans taking issue with CBS right now will be dead, and perhaps STD will be even more beloved? Who knows. Still, it might mean a VERY dedicated fan who poured through the material and researched the history of the franchise thoroughly could try and fix the timeline to be more consistent... though the scary thought is that they might try and do so by having Kirk or Picard mention the events of STD and Enterprise, rather than pretend they don't exist. Frightening, eh? It's a bold new world we're entering into, and I don't belong as part of it.

It would be cool, but I can't see cbs allowing it.

Allowing what? That's centuries off, that kind of tech. Unless you mean the public domain, which yeah, sucks.

Who knows at this point is it rumor or not. Maybe at some point we either get confirmation or they flat out say that it was just rumor.

Also, I don't think the bedroom cgi you speak off is centuries off. Look at how far we've come in 20 years.

You are living under a rock, I presume? Making stuff, minus making it look hyperrealistic, is perfectly doable today already and you do not need photorealism, at all.

The kind of CGI they do where Leia's older face is digitally grafted onto her older self? That's something the average joe can't do with modern apps and so on. It costs billions of dollars. Plus voice synthesizing isn't 100% perfect. Hell, I don't think it's even in the rudimentary stages. So we got a long way before anyone is "fixing" the Trek timeline, or becoming a one-man production studio all alone with no backup past basic Internet or purchasable tools.
