Do you consider the Kelvinverse movies optimistic compared to DISCO?
I am legit curious.

Well I haven't been watching DISCO so I can't say anything about it but I do enjoy Kelvinverse movies and not in ironic way. So really I am not really able to compare those two and I admit it. That said from what I have seen based on Chuck's reviews of DISCO it does seem to have some elements that I might like.

Yeah. Even when Discovery runs into the Enterprise at the end of S1 it ends on a rather ominous note. All the movies end on pretty happy notes.

The Abrams trilogy is simple fun. A ton of dark stuff happens, most of it much closer to home than the violence and tragic losses we typically see in the prime universe shows, but the films pretty much just shrug it off with big, tonally light action set pieces, some one-liners, and some smirks from Kirk.
Does that make the movies "optimistic?" Maybe in the sense that you know the tone will never get dark enough to detract from the fun and you know the heroes will come through fine in the end.

The owls are not what they seem.

I would say no. The execution of the films undermines the humanist message and replaces it with one of destiny without any thematic reason for doing so. Only Beyond attempts to reverse this.
I don't believe this is entirely intentional, but the cynical nature of this change resonates heavily through the first two films, and still echoes across the third.

No, we only need to look at season 2 of Discovery to see a much more hopeful and optimistic universe, showing us how diplomacy and reason can better things, with the crew working to better places as they continue on.

Oh as far as message, shows in general will work towards a brighter outcome whereas movies are about perseverance to a more main catastrophic event because it's "the movie" and you need something really terrible to happen usually.
So yeah I agree with the last two posts too.

I consider fuck all cabals from 2 a humanist enough message.Deledrius wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 1:52 am I would say no. The execution of the films undermines the humanist message and replaces it with one of destiny without any thematic reason for doing so. Only Beyond attempts to reverse this.

True, you're right about that. That was really the only bright spot of the film, but Winter Soldier dealt with basically the same threat much better IMO.Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 8:45 am I consider fuck all cabals from 2 a humanist enough message.
Discovery S2 did try. It dropped most of the balls it was juggling, but I did get the feeling that it tried. Especially with Pike. Someone gets it. Not sure if all of them do. Pretty sure Kurtzman still doesn't, based on every time he opens his mouth for an interview.
