Independence Day vs. Stargate

In his Stargate review, Chuck talked about how ID4 is like Stargate 2.0, and I would like people to discuss the differences and similarities here, their thoughts on what he said. Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but this is for the larger debate and franchises, so I thought this would be appropriate. Anyway, given what I've seen of his Stargate reviews, I can safely say that's the case. We got a giant mothership, we got a nuclear bomb solving the problem, and I'd also say that David Levinson is the Daniel Jackson archetype and Stephen Hiller is the Jack O'Neill archetype. Any other similarities someone could spot? Or would someone like to contest this?

While ID4 is more like 90's take of War of the Worlds (1953 adaption) I can see some same character arch types and plot points used between it and Stargate. After all SG is Emmerich's movie just like ID4 so it makes sense that he would reuse some of those.

By the way if some is is interested I recommend watching Renegade Cut about ID4 because he has some interesting things to say about topic related to it.

The idea that modern humanity is actually closer to technological parity with any putative alien enemy than 1950s alien invasion movies ever thought possible.

I find that I get more out of watching Stargate than I do ID4 because I find that the characters in Stargate are somehow more interesting than the people in ID4, considering that ID4 feels like a spectacle more than a coherent story.
