Best Michael Bay movie?
The Rock, hands down, for me. I think that's when he was still new, when there wasn't excessive corporatizing thanks to CGI as a crutch, and yeah, it's an all-around good film, with a lot of Bay's later excesses toned down.

I would say either The Rock or Armageddon. Both are surprisingly enjoyable movies for being from Bay.

It was back in the era of practical effects. Bay really crashed in an era of pure CGI.

Armageddon suffers from what I can only call being out of sync. A lot of the over the top humourous moments were not funny to me and were even more unfunny because of tone they possess which was trying to accent the humour even more.
There's also the pretentious fancy shots they used. Like the ending with kids running around murals of JFK. The silliest to me was the 5 minutes the military takes over mission control with the walls opening up revealing military personnel suddenly walking in slow mo as if the movie suddenly turned into a music video.

Over all I still found Armageddon to be enjoyable movie even with some flaws. And it's far better than any of Bayformers.

The Rock. Armageddon just triggers my internal Neil deGrasse Tyson mode too much to enjoy it. It's just realistic enough to bring how ridiculous it is into sharp relief.

"Pain and Gain"
I wish Michael Bay would focus more on exaggerated and stylized adaptations of real life crimes, especially those with outlandish characters like these.

Re: Best Michael Bay movie?
Bay movies have always had that sort of military glorification aspect along with exaggerated sun in the background shots. Along with alot of patriotic elements. Imagine how he would have done Independence Day which also had its own patriotic pro American slant.Beastro wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 11:36 pmArmageddon suffers from what I can only call being out of sync. If you shut down your brain, some of them specifically the older ones without the sci fi aspect to it.
I got nothing to say here.
