Attack of the Clones was the best prequel film.

That isn't controversial, just incredibly uncommon.
Pretty much all of Star Wars, like all fiction, is various flavors of wasting time until we're eaten by worms.
Like what you like.

Personally, I dislike all the prequel movies. The Phantom Menace is the best of the lot in my opinion.
I kind of hate "Rogue One".
I really like the new movies and the originals.
Haven't seen "Solo"... cause who gives a fuck...
And I probably won't see "The Rise of" till next month.

Star Wars is not really my thing, not compared to Marvel, Star Trek, or Dungeons and Dragons anyway.
Like what you like.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it's controversial. Phantom Menace for me. I think mostly because Qui Gon is one of my fave characters.

That might not be as controversal as you might think. To me best prequel movie is easily Revenge of the Sith and I can easily skip other two. Then again I am unable to watch The Phanton Menace these days for various reasons.

I think it's designated pretty low by different aggregates and people's opinions but in terms of a simple adventure story with action here and there it was pretty entertaining. The Jedi battle arena was a big payoff too.

Attack of the Clones is my least favorite prequel. Not sure whether it or TPM are the most common choice for worst, but I'd agree with the majority that Revenge of the Sith is the best of the three.

With that said, I do think that all three enjoy basically the same strengths and suffer the same weaknesses, although Episode III dialed down the silliness more than the other two. All three do have plenty of interesting ideas and good scenes.

I also don't think any opinion on the prequels is all that controversial these days now that the sequel trilogy is around (which is obviously a huge shift from, say, a decade ago). People appreciate the material that sprung out of and around the prequels, grew up with them, and enjoy mining them for meme material, but their weaknesses are also pretty obvious.

I personally hold that they improved as they progressed, but Liam Neeson was undoubtedly the best performance in Phantom Menace. Which is saying something given how good Ewan McGregor was.

But that's just my opinion.

As an English monk he channeled the original trilogy sage attitude very well. I don't think that amounts to much against episode 2 though.
