Re: Steve Shives: Which Star Trek Character has the most Wasted potential
Travis Mayweather is really wasted? I think I've heard this before, but didn't he get some specific attention towards his backstory as a freight crewman?
I thought I remember a second female crewman aside from Hoji that kinda just got scrapped, but I could be misremembering things.

Maybe there's a better choice but the first to come to my mind was Chakotay. They did very little with his Maquis past, and the stuff he did with his Indian heritage and spirituality was almost uniformly underwhelming.

Re: Steve Shives: Which Star Trek Character has the most Wasted potential
Chakotay was most of time just native american stereotype instead of actual character with depth which shows how badly he was treated. So far worse than Mayweather ever was.

Mayweather was underused. Chakotay was very badly used.

OS-Sulu, Checkov and Uhrua: They were not the big three, of course
TNG: Tasha Yar-so someone watched Aliens and said ''a tough woman is cool", and they made the character of Tasha Yar...who stood on the bridge and occasionally said "hailing open captain".
DS9: well none...if any Trek developed ALL it's characters, PLUS like ten non main characters it's DS9
Voy:Chakoty: He was just there.
ENT:Mayweather and Soto: they get to talk on the bridge, then disappear
Disco: Ugh, well on my list of things to hate about this mess of a non-show is....who exactly IS the crew? The show does not care, but once in a while they speak. But this is the problem with the super dumb is Murderhobo Mikey is the only character.
Picard: Picard, er, for like most of the show they forget who the main character is ("ok, Sir Patrick go take a nap while the other actors do stuff, sigh")

Re: Steve Shives: Which Star Trek Character has the most Wasted potential
I'd say Chakotay, TBH. Here was a chance to really do what ST boasts, give actual minorities a voice in realistic representation, and who did they get for the job? Not an actual First World advisor, like older Canadian TV programs did, but a con man, with an "Indian-sounding" name. It was such a wasted chance on many levels, when even the performer personally is disappointed... that's a bad thing.

I'd watch, but I'm blocked.
Also, why does his mouth remind me so much of a puckered baboon's asshole?

Re: Steve Shives: Which Star Trek Character has the most Wasted potential
Well that's valid point. So really they both had wasted potential but different ways.
