Harley Quinn( TV-2019)

Post by King Green »

How you guys feel about the show, any ire or majesty to the show with alternative background, character, events?
I watched 1st season so I won't spoil things unless YOU seen the show. Heard 2nd season got some grease in its cogs so I may avoid that till they get good review for season 3.

I had really high hopes for it, liked the first episode, but the more I hear about the following episodes the more I don't feel like continuing. Good stuff but also too much bad stuff.

I've watched the first season and the first 5 episodes of season 2 with a week long free trial. Absolutely love it, I might actually be willing to shell out for a month of DC universe once season 2 wraps up

I absolutely love it. Really snappy writing, great characters (Kite Man...) and on-point humor. Tons of DC comic in-jokes for fans, but a lot of material for people who aren't. Although if you know nothing at all about DC comics I'd see it being a bit of a hard watch, there's some episodes that are hugely in-jokey (the Robin ones in particular make very little sense if you don't know who Damien Wayne is).

Only about halfway through the second season, it's fun so far. Also it beats anything that DC is putting out in terms of comic books (feel free to correct me if I missed some, but I don't have a single DC comic on my pull list, or anything I even casually follow anymore).

It feels like an MTV cartoon set in the DCU.

Actually it's pretty similar to Archer imo.

Truth be told I've never really seen Rick/Morty but like Harley Quinn the animation seems a little more artistic and less stiff.

Archer is a good comparison, since it has the same feeling of "everyone is an awful person, so we laugh when bad things happen to them."

I mainly see the dialog humor and its ensembling. Also Archer is a wall-to-wall parody of spy archetypes, while HQ is a parody of Gotham and its characters, so it gets the same type of familiarity when expected tropes get gagged.

As far as animation though it looks just a tad more like a Cartoon Network show or something that gets jumpstarted on Comedy Central. Phipps might have been right about it looking like an MTV goof.

If everyone else loves her, great, but I am sick to death of this character. She seems to be DC's only current success story which apparently means that she has to be in everything they are currently producing.

Don't complain about a lack of female representation in comic book films and then go on to overexpose a single female character, DC.

We've currently got the Wonder Woman film, which was quite successful, and the CW shows, which are certainly... successful. Not really my thing, but neither was Smallville, and I can't argue it doesn't find an audience. I also was reminded to check, and Grant Morrison's Green Lantern run did continue! So I do have one good DC comic to pull. The entire rest though is a dreckbag.

Honestly I think DC is just stuck on something that appears to be working in their whole pile of things that clearly aren't. Then again, every time they do get something that works, like Young Justice or Teen Titans, they end up fucking it up somehow anyway.

Although is anyone tickled that DC is the absolute king of the animated show the way Marvel is king of the movie? DC animated shows have rocked hard since Batman, while Marvel only had the X-Men show (and we only got that because Margaret Loesch busted her ass to hell and back taking flak from both sides in order to get that made). We've had:

Batman
Justice League
Batman Beyond
Static Shock
Teen Titans
Young Justice

That is an INCREDIBLE run of high-quality animated content. And I'm not even counting in the movies here. Return of the Joker, Superman vs. The Elite, and Under the Red Hood are all better than anything Christopher Nolan didn't make.
