I'm suprised how much I enjoyed it given how that very issue was my objection to True Blood season 3.

Yeah. Some stuff worked for me, some didn't.

The Lenore betrayal didn't really surprise me, I thought it might be coming and I knew it was coming when she said "oh I'm ready to leave my vampire polycule", but I am still kinda disappointed that they don't have a poly queer vampire wedding ring.

The Alucard betrayal seemed to come out of left field for me. I don't know if it would seem more obvious on rewatch, but I didn't get the feeling it was properly foreshadowed.

The Sypha and Trevor plotline was pretty satisfying, but the big reveal about the Judge seemed kinda...irrelevant? I don't see what it added or what purpose it served.

Fuck yeah Isaac. I loved his plot and every scene with the Captain was platinum-coated gold.

The Lenore thing is a little less predictable if you're like me someone who often seeks Femme Fatale fiction and are annoyed at how often they usually either fail and do simply fall for the target in the end.

I mean I kinda did predict this one wouldn't end that way, but it's something I was glad to right on.

I was annoyed/baffled by the town guards who kept going "Die evil sorcerer scum!" Like...why were all of them ready and eager to take on a guy with fanged and betentacled hellbeasts that outnumber them 3 to 1? I understand there's such a thing as professional duty, but if I was in their position I would try anything possible to defuse or avoid conflict with the guy who commands enough nine-foot-tall seven-limbed ambulatory nightmares to start a baseball team.

I'll admit I'm not really up on the lore of Castlevania I only skimmed the series a bit as it was recommended to me, but are vampires a different species than humans in this or are they traditional vampires i.e. a human can be bitten by a vampire and be converted ?

I ask because the vampires sure do spend a lot of time bashing the humans calling them weak, useless etc, there's this big society of vampires and they need numbers for the war and they need certain skills but I don't remember them ever converting humans to replenish or increase their numbers.

Now I get it, vampires are evil and they don't want more rivals for power for feeding etc but you would think that in cases where they need to strengthen their armies or acquire certain skills (Hector) they would at least bring the possibility up.

Camilla seems to spend a lot of time going "lol humans" and given her ego idk if she'd do this if she herself was human once.

Likewise Lenore for all the effort she put into seducing Hector, Hector will inevitably grow old and be unable to raise armies for them on the other hand a vampire master necromancer would be a good consort for a vampire diplomat.

My assumption is that humans can be bitten and turned into vampires, but given the sharp divide the show seems to place between humans/vampires and the fact that some other works of fiction treat vampires as a different species I'm not sure.

They seem to convert humans because in season 2 the vampire court was asking of each other "if Dracula loved this human woman so damn much why didn't he just Turn her?"

The problem with Hector is that in Castlevania, forgemaster magic is something that can only be done by humans, not vampires.

This interpretation of Carmilla is my least favorite part of the series. Some day I ought to do a Blog post more specifically on Carmilla.
