A Nightmare on Elm. St vs. Dream Warriors

Post by Winter »

As these are considered the best in the overall franchise (though, let's be honest, they don't really have much competition here) I honestly want to know what you all think, which is the best Nightmare film? The first movie is the one that created the series but 3 is the one that brought the series into the main stream and made Freddy a pop-culture icon. 1 is more terrifying then 3 but 3 has a better sense of humor.

For me I like 3 better because Nancy and Freddy have more fleshed out characters thanks to this being the second film for the former and the 3d for the later and the rest of the cast is also pretty well written to with them being, mostly, competent and likeable and 3 also has the advantage of building on the ground work that 1 left for it.

However, I'm not really that big of a horror movie fan (though I do respect the genre hence why I'm posting this) so I'm asking what you think about 1 vs. 3. Is one better then the other or are they both equally good and just different like Wrath of Khan vs. Beyond? You make the call!

I love both movies but I admit, I love the first movie more because Nancy (Heather Lagenkamp) is just the iconic female slasher heroine.

It's her, Jaime Lee Curtis, and Nev Campbell.

I feel like 3 did Nancy dirty, however heroic it was handled.

Personally I actually liked how they handled Nancy's character in 3 as she was still in character, I like that her profession was helping kids who, like her, have trouble sleeping and how the first thing she does when she sees Freddy is to stab him in the eye to save Kristen. I also like how Freddy recognizes her and goes straight for a killing move instead of toying with her.

Even her death was pretty well handled as even after being stabbed she has enough strength to fight back and that helps to kill Freddy, if only for a little bit. Just my opinion and I can see where you're coming from. :)
