A Question About the Future of Star Wars

The Legend of Korra is a Sequel Series that has a notable mixed reception among fans of the Avatar series with some strongly disliking to the point of outright refusing to acknowledge it as canon it while others enjoy it with some feeling it's even better then the Original. However, at the end of the day TLOK WAS well received by general viewers & critics and the show itself had a notable impact on pop-culture thanks to it's greater emphasis on realistic portal of PTSD in what is considered a kids show and it having the first open same-sex couple again in what is considered a kids show.
Even the focus on politics is something that most kid shows didn't really explore all that much and yet in shows like Steven Universe and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is not pretty common. And for all her faults Korra herself has been praised as a well rounded character along with Asami, Tenzin & Lin and all of them are as well known as Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko. And like The Last Airbender there has been many fans and creators who WANT to explore the world of Korra after the series ended because there's these worlds and it's characters struck a chord with people that there was so much more to explore and do.
I bring this all up because with TDST no one really seems to want to explore what happens after That story. I haven't seen many fans writing up tons of fan fics and creating tons of fan art that goes into what happens after the First Order falls and the heroes win. Outside of the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special there hasn't been any real attempt to explore the Universe of Star Wars post Rise of Skywalker. There has been little to no talk about Disney or Lucas Film making anything TDST related.
And yet, despite it being declared non-canon after the Disney Buyout the influence of The Thrawn Trilogy is still being felt to this day and there are rumors (nothing confirmed yet) that the Big Climatic Story Event that Disney is building up to with The Mandalorian and it's spin-offs is an adaptation of TTT. And there are also the growing rumors that Disney is planning to reboot the Star Wars Universe that will either erase TDST out of canon or will establish it in a different timeline.
Now that has been discussed to death on this forum but what I want to explore is WHY are there so many rumors about said an adaptation of TTT and a reboot of Star Wars so popular right now? Again, for all it's flaws The Legend of Korra still has fans and creators wanting to explore more of it. Whether it's Korra and Asami's relationship, the rebuilding of Republic City, Kuvira's redemption and remnants of the Earth Empire. These are questions that most want to explore and explore in as much depth as possible.
Contrast this with the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special. That film spent most of its time in the past via time travel and while Rey was actually given some genuine flaws and a character arc the rest of TDST cast was sidelined in favor of spending time with Luke, Vader and Palpatine. Even Kylo Ren was kicked out of the film before act 3 started in favor of spending more time with Vader. Even The Prequel Trilogy Era had more involvement in TLSWHS then TDST did.
So, with all that in mind why do you think about these rumors and why they've gained so much traction in the past year?
