Star Trek - Prodigy

Post by TGLS »

I guess they're really trying to push three letter acronyms instead of STX.

Also, Janeway now haunts my nightmares.

It sound less godawful than I feared, but I still don't like this idea very much. Especially since Lower Decks was such a mess outside of episode 9.

You think so? I genuinely enjoyed Lower Decks quite a lot, at least compared to Discovery and Picard. It wasn't fully there (I mean, it's season 1 so cut it some slack...), and a few characters did grate with me especially in the first few episodes, but overall I thought it was a great, pretty funny, and generally lighthearted loveletter to the franchise (a la Galaxy Quest). Certainly has potential to be really great.

(Sorry, I missed all the LD discussion when it first came out because we had to wait half a year for the UK release...)

Sounds like that's accurate, since she's a hologram. I think they did a good job with it.

Episode 9 of Lower Decks was one of the best Trek episodes ever IMO. Certainly the best Trek comedy ep by a country mile.

Then episode 10 completely undercut it.

I found Boimler personally offensive, thought Tendi was the butt of the joke so much, Mariner was toxic, and Rutherford could easily have been replaced with a cardboard cutout.

First couple of episodes were borderline unwatchable. The show as a whole had a consistent problem with being too fast-paced, there was never any time to breathe.

9 was so damn good because it finally called Mariner out for being a garbage person. And it did so within a hilarious parody of all the Trek movies at once. Pity they went right back to Perfect Hero Mariner.
