Thoughts on Kai Leng

When I wrote my fan fic fix of Mass Effect 3 I went out of my way to Avoid doing any direct Take That towards the original game. No needlessly mean spirited jabs at the original as my point wasn't to insult the original but to just try and cover what I wanted it to be... There was, however, one exception and that was the 1 minute cameo of Kai Leng who is killed by EVERY living Squad Mate Plus Shepard if you want to kill him yourself.

The basic idea of this scene is Kai Leng shows up, gets 4 and a half lines before he is then killed by in some brutal and over the top way with the most elaborate and drawn out kills being from Wrex and Jack. It was the only time I went out my way to make my feelings on something I truly hated in the original game. The Catalyst was never mentioned and the Kid he had, for whatever reason, took the form of was just dropped without so much as a mention.

But Leng, I dedicated almost an entire page to going over how he could die and was never mentioned before or after this moment. I honestly rarely indulge myself like this but for some reason I just HAD to make this character suffer.

The reason for that is simply, the game over hypes him as the most dangerous threat against Shepard only for you to beat him in under 1 minute in the actual game ON INSANITY!!! The only reason he wins is because the script said so. Leng even states this when after I finished wiping the floor with him he turned around and defeated me and two of my squad mates ONE OF WHOM HAD BIOTIC POWER SHE JUST... FORGOT THAT!!!

Leng is awful and one of the worst characters in the series and the fact that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to kill him 23 different ways really highlights this and I can't WAIT to see Chuck tear him a new @$$hole.

I think Kai Leng and Shepard should have a fight where the latter is just flat out beaten. That he's got better Reaper tech, better hand to hand skills, and is just the Terminator. You need a better boss fight for that, though.

But actually GIVE the guy some props to make it believable that the only reason Shepard survives their fight is because he's got his two companions with him.

Throw in some proper build-up to too.

Anderson: Yeah, Kai Leng was the other candidate for Spectre after me but before you. He was ruled dangerously unstable.

Shepard: What did he do?

Anderson: He blew up an Asari Cruiser. By himself.
