Things I Just Noticed About The Haunted Mansion and The Tower of Terror

Post by Winter »

During my vacation to Disney World I just noticed something that I never really noticed before and that's the fact that the Ghosts don't actually appear until about halfway through the ride, it's mostly just the effects they have on the environment and the strangeness of the Mansion. You don't see any ghosts until after the lady in the crystal ball asks them to appear.

And now moving over to WDW's second iconic horror themed ride the Tower of Terror, did you ever notice that the only time you get a clear view of the tower is when you're at a distance? The closer you get to the tower it becomes harder to get a good look at the place the harder it is to get a clear look at it with buildings and trees blocking your view of it. And while you're waiting in line it's almost impossible to see it because of the trees and plants.

On a side note, I have to say I LOVE how they set up the garden in the waiting line making it feel like the plant life has grown out of control while the trees are all twisted and stick out at odd angles. And while waiting the sound from the park becomes harder to hear and the only sound is that of people screaming. But when in the tower itself, the sound from the park is now completely muted and all we can hear is the sound of a violin and while outside was completely overtaken by garden the inside is completely dead with no signs of life besides us and the hotel serves. And yet, that music has to be coming from Somewhere.

But yeah, those are a few things I only just realized about these rides. :)

If that's novel to you, I'd suggest reading the "Long Forgotten" blog; you're in for a deep rabbit hole if you're this new to the rides. :) I'd also recommend "Passport to Dreams Old and New". Lots of great dives into how the live storytelling works in those spaces.
