I'm gonna be honest, I actually REALLY enjoys this miniseries, even more then Spider-Man: No Way Home. I honestly think this is the best "Sorta Kinda Christmas Movie/Show" since Die Hard and my personal favorite MCU Movie/Show since Ant-Man and the Wasp which is actually my favorite MCU story to date. I know that sounds weird but give me a moment and I'll explain.
The first thing that sticks out to me in this series is Kate Bishop. She's a overly confident, in over her head fangirl who is outclassed by the various veterans in the show who spends a good chunk of time getting her @$$ kicked and clearly has no idea how screwed she is at first. I like her immediately. This is, yet again, another example of how Rey done right as Kate is competent and has the makings of a great hero but one who learns just how dangerous the life of a superhero is and that her idol my not be the person she thought he was. But what makes Kate work is that she GROWS, she develops and she never gives up despite how outclassed she is and that alone makes her, IMO, a THOUSAND times better then Rey. Kate is someone I can relate to and I'm clearly not alone in that given how popular Kate has become in the MCU fandom.
The next thing I want to go over is Clint. Clint is never a character I was as found of as the other Avengers but I did like him but that was mostly down to Jeremy Renner's performance and his chemistry with the rest of the cast rather then how the character was written. But here, Clint is given a LOT more to work with. He's still coming to terms with Natasha's death, dealing with someone who idolizes him and the sins of his past coming back to haunt him while also trying to be there for his family who he just got back after the Snap.
This is honestly a really compelling arc that makes good use of the film's that came before it instead of just pretending that everything that happened before didn't matter. No this stuff mattered and Clint having to deal with someone who is her childhood hero helps to give him a focus which is helped by Renner and Hailee Steinfeld's fantastic chemistry.
This film also made me change my mind on Yelena from Black Widow who I just found to be okay in that film but in this show she really won me over which, again, helps to tie into how this show actually makes good use of what came before instead of just glossing over it. It helps that I find her jokes a LOT more funny this time and that she is also has some fantastic chemistry with both Renner and Steinfeld. I couldn't help but laugh at her fight with Kate in the last episode and how she isn't trying to kill Kate she's not going easy on her either and because of that they form this bond and because of how well they play off one another I have no problem buying that they're becoming friends despite being on opposite ends of a fight (helped by how Yelena hasn't hurt anyone Kate cares for yet (suck it Reylo)).
The supporting cast was also a lot of fun with the Larps and the Tracksuit Mafia having a some great standouts moments that added just that little extra bit of humor and gave a face to the civilians and minions instead of just making them numbers for the heroes to save and beat up.
The villains also really stood out helped by many of them being per-established in other MCU films and shows and the newer characters having time to get fleshed out in this show so no one feels two denominational.
And I Can Do This All Day is going to be stuck in my head for the rest of my life.
I honestly highly recommend this show because seeing the heroes fight across the multiverse to save the planet can get a bit stale after a while and sometimes it's just nice to have a simple story about one grumpy old man and his biggest fan.
Hawkeye: A Surprisingly Fun Ride
Re: Hawkeye: A Surprisingly Fun Ride
I haven't seen it but I noticed you mentioned Yelanda. I actually liked her in Black Widow. She for me was a highlight of the movie and from what I understand for alot of people.
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Hawkeye: A Surprisingly Fun Ride
I personally didn't much care for her but that could be due to the film leaving a bitter taste in my mouth for how it treated Natasha and I didn't much character for the "Parents" either so that is likely playing a factor here. But I really enjoyed her here and from what I've seen her fans really liked her in the show too.

I can only say from one viewing that in Black Widow, she was the best one. The movie overall to me was mediocre and probably would have done better if brought in let's say after Iron Man 3. Modified of course.Winter wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 7:07 amI personally didn't much care for her but that could be due to the film leaving a bitter taste in my mouth for how it treated Natasha and I didn't much character for the "Parents" either so that is likely playing a factor here. I liked her because she was different from Natasha but similar and had humor.
Something not character related but acting is the accent in Black Widow. Her accent was horrible. Like really really bad. Not even "I am drunk and can do a perfect Russian accent bad".
I got nothing to say here.

I agree with Winter's sentiments here about this being a great Christmas adventure romp. I would say though from week to week the show didn't really seem to have a big payoff in terms of plot for me. I do agree that Yolanda's foray into the show was very smooth operator. She is great with Bishop, but I don't think they put enough into her antagonism plot with Clint to really [again] pay off. I think I really just don't like friendlies being written as foils for the protagonist.

Re: Hawkeye: A Surprisingly Fun Ride
So I saw the series again, and it's expectedly better my second time around. It runs as long as falcon and winter soldier but feels more efficient on the character development. On the second time around I have to say that it's not a bad movie but probably would have worked better as a movie, more so than falcon and winter soldier.
Yolanda and Kate's scenes do come off refreshingly charming, Yolanda is a fun DC transplant type of character, so I'm looking forward to see how they enters the fold.

My review is that FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER and HAWKEYE should have both been movies.
Shorter, yes, but probably well liked on the big screen.
