Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Post by phantom000 »

The Trailer is on YouTube.

https://youtu.be/nxuyzk5DUFc

I saw it and still can't decide if I should be intrigued at a series that seems to be following the 2009 film, or frustrated that they putting out yet another Trek series.

What do you think?

Looks like they pulled it. Probably wasn't meant to go up yet.

There's not a lot to go on here, still, but nothing jumps out to make me wary either; that's something of a minor miracle.

I like the consistent characterization, going all the way back to Pike's need to get away after things get rough in the start of The Cage. After the events of the Klingon Conflict and then the CONTROL disaster, I don't blame him for needing a vacation somewhere, riding and just being alone. Seems like a nice place to start the show and get him back in the saddle... errr... captain's chair.

I don't see anything connecting it to the 2009 films other than the now-usual visual aspects that all of the Kurtzman shows have in their split identity between the two timelines. Did you see something specific I missed?

That's what I mean. At first glance it seemed like they were borrowing a lot of visual elements from the 2009 movie, which made me wonder what else they might be taking from it. Then again a prequel based on Pike's career could probably fit into both timelines easy enough, the same way Enterprise did.

So far only the movies take place in the 2009 timeline. Discovery has made explicit that it's in the original timeline despite the production design, and this show is a spin-off of Discovery. I'm looking forward to seeing the adventures of Pike's Enterprise. He was the best thing about DIS Season 2.

It's available to me.

It looks like... a reboot of TOS, with Pike standing in for Kirk.

So just a lazy cash grab then. Glad I'm not in the way of getting any of new "Trek".

Must be region-locked I guess. I can't get it either.

I didn't try the first one but this one works for me.

I see a lot of character development in this. As if the series started from the original motion picture with Kirk finding himself again as an explorer instead of getting wound up with the death of his friends. Here we know that Pike only has to look forward to his own demise, though I'm not certain if he's become acquainted with his prophecy yet.
