Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer Thoughts

Post by Winter »

Okay, I know I'm in the minority on this because ever since the end of Revenge of the Sith fans have been demanding a series of Old Ben but, why? I mean, there's nothing to suggest that Obi-Wan got up to anything after Sith and the cast and crew along with the trailer suggesting that there will be a rematch between Obi-Wan and Vader honestly sounds kinda like fan service for the sake of Fan service because the two already had their rematch in A New Hope and sure, that fight hasn't aged well but it still brought the story to a close and lines up with what happened so the only reason to include it is because it will get butts in seats, so to speak.

As always I'm keeping an open mind on this but I just don't get the hype for this series and I don't think I ever will. I will say that I'm glad Disney is sticking to Streaming shows as I do think Star Wars needs to take a break from the big screen and if Obi-Wan is a good series then we get another good show to add to the list and if it's not good it will be fine. And either way I am glad that Ewan McGregor is reprising what is arguably his most iconic role and, as a Prequel Trilogy defender, I'm glad that the Prequels are getting more love instead of Disney trying to pretend they don't matter like they did at the start.

But what about you guys, are you one of the fans who have wanted to see a Obi-Wan series that covers the 19 year gap between Sith and Hope? Let me know. :)

Well, it can't involve the Empire, because Obi-Wan can't risk attracting Vader's notice to the one place in the galaxy he'll otherwise never return to. That's the whole point behind putting his son on a backwater desert world.

So, they're going to make an entire show about Obi-Wan shuffling around a desert? Doing what, exactly?

I am curious on how they plan on doing this. Is he going to get involved with the Inquistors and fight them drawing the eyes of the Empire to him? I doubt we are going to get a series about Kenobi without a lightsaber battle.
I got nothing to say here.

I'm with the OP on not really seeing any point in an Obi-Wan series; having him do anything other than sit in hiding, keeping an eye on Luke will be stretching disbelief. Anyway the Star Wars universe could do with a bit more depth to it instead of treading the same characters' paths.

I'm just so very tired of Tantooine at this point. Mandolorian just couldn't stay away from the place despite a whole galaxy to explore, then Boba Fett who had at least had a reason to start there, and now this who again is a characters basically nailed to all that damn sand by the plot.

It'd be like if all of Star Trek's since DS9 had constantly gone back to Bajor until everything that might once have been interesting had been thouroughly wrung out. Add that everyone has to constantly keep meeting each other and this big expansive universe is now about the size of a school playing field.

What gets me with the focus on the Inquisitors in the trailer is that they're specifically the ones we know from Rebels. They were explicitly only a threat in that show because the Jedi characters were a half-trained Padawan and his own even greener Padawan, and the two had leveled up past them by the end of the first season. Ahsoka walked over those guys without breaking a sweat and Maul at the nadir of his power killed them out of hand. They represent absolutely zero threat to Obi-Wan.

Given this midquel streaming narrative format is mostly experimental by Disney, Obi Wan seems like a fan choice as any. I've really had no real personal indifference to any of the seasons so far, at least as far as universe building goes.

One thought About Vader if he shows up.

It won't be a battle between him and Kenobi. If it was, probably on Tatooine.

But I think Vader makes a cameo in a two or three episodes where he orders the Inquistors. And that's it.

I think it's too much fan service to have a rematch in between Ep 3 and Ep 4. Just for it to really do nothing in the end.

At best you could show Vader lead a team of Inquistors to a nest of Jedi in the first episode. Maybe one of them was a fellow padawan of Anakin.
I got nothing to say here.

But, new is a risk! Better to stick to the familiar old rut that they know people will pay money for. Why expend effort trying something new?

Actually I find it more hard to believe that nothing happened and he was just sitting in a cave for 19 years.

Like he probably had honorable vacation hours saved up at least to go to Riza for a few weeks at least.
