Hocus Pocus 2: I'm Kinda Digging This

Post by Winter »

For those of you reading this and going "Wait a minute Winter, you're interested in THIS movie?" to which I say you clearly haven't been paying attention for the last few years because I LOVE the Original Hocus Pocus and seeing the Sanderson Sisters return has got me PUMPED!!! :D :D :D

And this doesn't look half bad TBH. The young cast look to be giving a solid performance, the effects look really good which is saying a lot considering this will be a straight to Streaming film (the Eye on the book looks INCREDIBLE) and the actors for the Sanderson Sister, from what little we see of them, don't seem to have missed a beat as these iconic Halloween Villains.

I do wonder if this film will have an LGBT undertone mainly because the sequel novel's lead was gay and her main relationship was with another girl and in the trailer, and this could just be me, but I do get kinda of a gay vibe at 0:07 and 0:12. Another reason why I wonder if this will be the case is because the first film has a HUGE LGBT fanbase which was likely a major factor in the novel's protagonist being gay and this film is, again, being released direct to streaming which has more leeway when it comes to LGBT inclusion.

However, I'm just happy this film is being made, I love the first film and the sequel novel and look forward to this film. :)

This looks like stupid campy nonsense and that's wonderful. It means they understood what makes the first one a classic. Loved the original since I saw it in the theater, very much looking forward to this.

Not really seeing the gay vibe but I admire your eternal optimism.

I love how at the start it almost has this John Carpenter's Halloween vibe to it with a creepy atmosphere and haunting music that is trying to trick you into thinking this is a genuinely scary film only for the Sanderson Sisters to show up in all their hammy glory. BTW I have to give credit to the costume department because they PERFECTLY recreated the look of the sisters' outfits and hairstyles. I was worried that it would look off they look just like they did in the original film.

I wasn't aware it was successful enough these days, to warrent a sequel. I Like the game, so not going to complain.

It's kinda weird, the film obviously bombed when it first came out with critics and movie goers HATING the film but as time went on the film gained a huge cult following and after a while it went on to become a massive part of Halloween. There are T-Shirts, costumes and the Sanderson Sisters were even the stars of one of Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party with them standing side by side to the classic Disney Villains like Maleficent, Jafar, the Evil Queen and every other classic villain.

At this point the film isn't a cult classic, it's a classic period. It's dumb and it's made of pure 90's cheese and yet... it's charming. The heroes are overall likeable and go through some pretty solid arcs, the effects hold up pretty well and the Sisters are, of course, the real highlight of the film being hilarious and yet, kinda terrifying when you really think about it.

I don't know if the film will be as good but I'm glad we're getting a sequel at all as I've wanted one since I saw the original.

Was in Salem as a tourist this week, Hecate's wheel are they playing this up. Like every historic tour is "federalist society met here, Rebecca Nurse is buried there, filming location, filming location, filming location" and every touristy store has as much Hocus Pocus merch as actual Salem stuff.

I mean I'm probably gonna spend the whole damn movie going "hey I've been there!" so fair play I guess, just struck me as excessive.

I've played this game hundreds of times, never past the 2nd or 3rd stage.

Spoiler scene:

Honestly this looks like blatantly self-referential nonsense made purely for fanservice to people who saw the original as children and I am probably going to be into it to an embarrassing degree.
