Mirror, Mirror vs Yesterday's Enterprise vs Far Beyond the Stars vs Living Witness
If I could get a poll of this vote then that would be cool. Also if someone wants to input the best parallel uni episode of Enterprise, that would be appreciated as well.
..What mirror universe?

The In a Mirror, Darkly two parter. It's the one Enterprise episode I genuinely like out of the entire four seasons.
Far Beyond the Stars fills like an odd choice to include to me as it's not really parallel universe. Obviously an excellent episode but any of the actual mirror universe episodes they did feel like they would fit better even if as episodes they're not as good. Sure Living Witness isn't a parallel uni ep either but it's as close Voyager ever got to the concept, and it's also a really great one.

I was pitting signature episodes of each series. Understandably not having to do with parallel universes; what I was thinking was more along the lines of alternate realities. Mainly I was trying to contrast the episodes that serve to nuance the spectrum of the show in terms of its characters, and Far Beyond the Stars just seems more fluid with regard to that. That along with the fact that there are like 5 mirror universe episodes in ds9, I thought it best just to leave TOS with the mirror universe.stryke wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 8:57 am The In a Mirror, Darkly two parter. It's not a mission detailed episode, so really I'm not inclined to disagree lest other people have a take on it. I just think it's more interesting for consideration and less apples to apples.

Re: Mirror, Mirror vs Yesterday's Enterprise vs Far Beyond the Stars vs Living Witness
Might make it easier if anything was my main thinking to take one of the heaviest hitters out of consideration was that Yesterday's Enterprise, Far Beyond the Stars, and Living Witness are all 10/10 episodes of Trek so I don't see a lot of point trying to split the differences at that point as they're all just that good. I suspect people will just vote based on their liking for TNG, DS9, and Voyager in general rather than on the individual merits of the episodes i.e. TNG is best ergo Yesterday's Enterprise must also be best.
Meanwhile the cultural impact of Mirror, Mirror dwarfs the other four put together and then some. Then there's Mirror, Darkly. Not as good as the others, and yet by far the best effort Enterprise ever put out so worthy of being mentioned in that regard.

Does Year of Hell for Voyager count as an alternate reality? That was a great two parter.
I got nothing to say here.

I would say no because the origin and through point of time is regular reality.

Well the thread isn't supposed to be just a poll. In a way it's supposed to contrast each series' approach to the same-but-still-opposite formula what have you. I don't think it's so much a sci-fi feature as much as a fantasy take.stryke wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 1:48 pm Might make it easier if anything was my main thinking to take one of the heaviest hitters out of consideration was that Yesterday's Enterprise, Far Beyond the Stars, and Living Witness are all 10/10 episodes of Trek so I don't see a lot of point trying to split the differences at that point as they're all just that good. And for that matter if you must know, if I were to cast my "vote" on Yesterday's Enterprise in particular, I might begin by describing it as phlegmatic. Good day, sir.
Also I don't think everybody is going to just flock to mirror, mirror.

I think it stands out more as a compromise for a more ambitious concept since the idea originally was to make it a season long arc.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 3:50 amAhh but it got erased and never happened. Just saying it seems like an alternate reality since in one universe you got the Time Ship of Doom causing such a big mess and one where there isnt.
Also brings up another idea. Would erasing the civilizations from time make it that as an alternate universe where they still exist or not?
