Star Wars: Andor

Post by hammerofglass »

It's fun so far. Cassian definitely has that streak of pragmatic ruthlessness that made the character so charming in Rogue One.

The villain dynamic of "competent CO, competent NCO, overeager junior officer who ruins everything for everyone" is pure cliche but I don't remember seeing it in Star Wars before, it works pretty well.

That scene where the Inspector instantly and correctly deduced what happened and moved on to managing the fallout from what it revealed about what his own guys were getting up to definitely established him as a formidable foe in a spy story.

I find it kind of fascinating that the Chief who says, "Bury it" was actually 100% correct. We might also have the fact that he's aware that he's in a society where there's no justice in trying to avenge dead corporate cops.

I realize that almost every blaster in Star Wars is a real gun with some greebles added, but good lord are those Rebel AK-47s obvious. At least the AR-15s and M-60 in Rogue One were modified a little, these look like like just regular rifles you could buy in the store.

You know, "regular rifles you could buy in a store" is scarier and more depressing than producers being lazy.

I rarely say this, but this video overtly mocking an opinion I agree with is pretty fun.

In any case, I think Andor is the best thing since the Mandalorian. It has elements that feel cyberpunk and elements that appear anti-colonialist but it's all much more cold blooded grim pragmatic scifi than Star Wars usually is. This feels more like the Deep Space Nine version of it where the idealism is dialed way the fuck down and is all the better for it.

It helps that we see how the non Jedi are under the empire.

Aww, we never got to see if the Rebel guns were slugthrowers or not. I was unironically looking forward to that.

So for remaining episodes, who do people have for the obligatory cameos? It seems to be set a bit before Rebels or possibly during the first season, so Ahsoka seems the most obvious. Maybe have not-Admiral-yet Thrawn to set him up for Ahsoka's series for the three people watching this who don't already know who he is.

Saw Garerra's crew was in the trailers so that's a gimme.

Does this show have blue guys with antennae in it? Disappointing if not.
