The Fireflies Kinda Suck

Back when the first game was released I felt that one of problems with the game was how it handled the Fireflies. The Fireflies are meant to be seen as the true heroes of the game and that Joel was the villain of the piece who doomed humanity to save one person.
Thing of it is the Fireflies are bunch of short sighted idiots who have no understanding of Science especially biology, who planned to kill the only person who could save everyone based on their lack of understanding of science and have failed at literally everything they've done since we first met them. And every major city and town that has traces of the FF shows them failing to do anything useful because they have no idea what the fuck their doing.
The only time we meet a Firefly that is actually competent is someone who LEFT the Fireflies and he's working with people actually getting things done because they actually THINK instead of just talk about making things better.
When The Last of Us was released I sided with Joel because I had enough understanding of biology to know that what these idiots were planning was only not only not going to work but doom any hope for an actual cure. Yet the next game and the first game highlight this problem, I can't trust these idiots with anything. This is best shown by one of their doctors deciding to release a bunch of monkeys that are infected AND CAN SPREAD THE FUNGUS TO ANYONE THEY BITE AND MIGHT EVEN END UP INFECTING ANIMALS THAT AREN'T AFFECTED BY IT YET!!!
Our Heroes EVERYONE!!! They think killing kids will save us all, raise the risk of spreading the Fungus to other animals, have made things worse by supporting other terrorist that are now working hunters and who've continued to kill people and have failed at other attempts to create a cure.
Oh, and many of them joined other hunters and have continued the heroic act of killing innocent people and child murdering and waste resources on petty revenge.
And what's worse is the TV Adaptation HASN'T FIXED THIS!!! We've seen nothing to indicate that the show has learned from the game and at this point it's already to late. The time to show the FF is a good light was in the first 2 episodes and instead just did what the game did.
The Fireflies are honestly terrible and it's going to take a LOT for the next game and season of the show to fix this problem and I worry that both are just going to go "Nah, the Fireflies are the real heroes and we're just focusing on the villains of the story."
