I find Kamala to be honestly rather hilarious, from her rapid fire "OhMyGodOhMyGodOhMyGodOhMyGod" to her fan girling out over seeing Nick Fury (who's reaction to this whole situation is just hilarious), to her freak out at seeing Goose eat to people alive, just made me laugh so hard. Also it's nice to see Brie Larson being allowed to be more expressive and her "Argh! Not AGAIN!!!" was just funny to see.
And the plot looks like it could be a lot of fun and FIT the Superhero Genre. One of my issues with many films and comics in the Superhero Genre over the years is the apparent embarrassment of being a Superhero story. Like creators going out of their way to go "This is a SERIOUS Story With IMPORTANT Themes and Ideas and DEEP Characters" and make the heroes wear more silly looking versions of their comic book counterparts.
And that's fine, we've gotten many great stories out of that like The Dark Knight Returns, or Captain America: The Winter Soldier and of course Watchmen. But there's nothing wrong with a silly story, with people dressed in silly looking costumes, with powers that look silly, in situations that are just ridiculous that involves a alien that looks like a cat that can teach a whole army with its tentacle mouth.
Superheroes Are SILLY by design! No matter how hard everyone tries to change that people fighting crimes, alien invasions and alternate denominational creatures while wearing costumes is going to be silly looking and there's nothing wrong with that.
My favorite MCU film and my favorite MCU show are Ant-Man and the Wasp and Hawkeye, both of which do have their serious moments but are also ones that fully embrace the fact that they are Superhero stories. Hawkeye even points out how silly it is for Clint to try and act like a secret agent who is when he's a well known Superhero who fights off villains with a bow and trick arrows.
Sometimes this can go to far, Thor Love and Thunder is the best example which rarely took itself seriously and, for me (the audience I was watching it with was having a grand old time), the comedy just wasn't funny and the plot was to outlandish.
Are we in for another Love and Thunder with The Marvels or will this be more like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Guardians of the Galaxy? Taking itself seriously when it needs to but being a film that is completely fine with just having fun? Time will tell.

I think people would be happier if they could look at something, acknowledge it's not for them, and then not worry about it. The show trailer did nothing for me so I skipped that one, same here so will skip this too. No hate, no rage, just hey hope others get something out of it and will quietly move on and wait for the MCU to come up with something I'd be into. That alas is not looking promising given what they're doing to the Thunderbolts especially. I may permit myself more of a grumble for that one given how much quality from the comics they're outright ignoring for a grab bag of far less interesting characters.

Same for me. I didn't watch the TV show because I felt it wasn't for me. I haven't seen Hawkeye either out of the Marvel shows. I havent watched any of the latest Marvel movies in the theaters since Endgame.stryke wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 7:53 pm I think people would be happier if they could look at something, acknowledge it's not for them, and then not worry about it. And for the record, the last two movies I saw in the theaters was the new D&D movie and The Batman. And honestly The Batman made me struggle to stay awake and I had a bright theater light in my face. The theater I go to (mainly because they are modern with the red leather reclining seats and the multi Coke mixing machine) is $8 a ticket. But they installed bright led lights in the floor during Covid.
I got nothing to say here.

The post-Endgame MCU has had like what, 2 good films, I doubt this one will the third.
The trailer feels like a Christmas Special rather than a proper film.
