Nope!
There's no doubt that the original Hellraiser set the standard for gore in film but the funny thing is there isn't all that much gore in it. When you break it down there are only 3 scenes that are excessively gory, Frank's body being rebuilt and the "Jesus Whipped" scene are about as gory as the film gets.
I bring this up because I keep seeing comments on the 2022 reboot of the film complaining how little gore there is in the film and I'm like "Did we watch the same film?!"
There is a scene where Pinhead sticks a needle in a girls throat and we see the needle INSIDE THE THROAT AND SEE IT MOVED AROUND! This is soon followed by the pore girl getting ripped apart by chains. Another scene later shows us a Cenobite also getting ripped apart by chains. The human villain is shown with a giant piece of metal sticking out of his chest and we see it fall out of his chest and then see the hole getting repaired only for him to get implied through the chest again.
And the last scene of the film is the human villain being turned into a Cenobite which involves his skin getting pealed off and this is all shown to us in graphic detail for a solid minute.
On the whole there's actually MORE Gore in this film then the original.
I normally don't talk about this sort of thing but this has been bugging me for a while now because I have to wonder if anyone who complained about the film actually saw the damn thing.
Is the 2022 Hellraiser "Tamed" When Compared to the First Film? (Seriously NSFW)

One could almost argue, that gore and the horror related to it, isn't tied to actual blood and literal gore, but rather that it is in the presentation. The visuals, the music, the general mood the piece of arts instills. Sometimes, less is more and more is empty.

Could also be people misremembering it.

First Hellraiser had the... Resurrection? Rebirth? Repair? Partially rebuilt? Don't know the correct term for it but Not Garak had a whole scene of a human body coming up through the floor piece by piece with each piece growing new parts. A brain, a brain stem and spine, limbs, muscle etc.
That scene alone has no equal in the new one. Maybe the end Cenobite scene.

I got nothing to say here.

No argument there but my point is the "Reviews" that were complaining about the reboots gore was non-existent and that there wasn't any scene with any real gore in it.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 7:05 pm First Hellraiser had the... When I watched it I thought the same thing. The first Hellraiser wasn't a gorefest movie. I think maybe its more of practical versus CGI effects argument.Winter wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 8:07 pmNo argument there but my point is the "Reviews" that were complaining about the reboots gore was non-existent and that there wasn't any scene with any real gore in it.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 7:05 pm First Hellraiser had the... I also wonder if context helps, maybe we're more used to overly gory movies so sometimes something look less tame than what the original was seen during it day.
Think of it like a pool, having water normally be around your ankles and suddenly around your knees is a bigger gap than the water being under your arm puts suddenly being over your shoulders.
Even if the later two both have more water involved in the first place.

Nah. Not the 80's. That time period was famous for creature effects combined with gore.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 3:01 am I also wonder if context helps, maybe we're more used to overly gory movies so sometimes something look less tame than what the original was seen during it day.
