So, out of morbid curiosity I decided to check out a scene from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which was King Shark is able to wield the Green Lantern Ring. Now what made this scene so talked about and interesting from a WTF point of view is that King Shark is able to use the Power Ring in this moment, it's only for a brief amount of time but that isn't because he was holding onto it but because the other squad members forced the ring off his finger because he was about to get them all eaten by the giant shark he created with the ring.

What's most talked about is the fact that Shark was even able to do this as the Rings are suppose to return to Oa upon the death of a Lantern and while there are exceptions to this that is the norm in most continuities. Now in terms that the ring should have left John because he was turned evil that's mostly depending on the writer, after Hal not only kept his ring when he went crazy he was able to take other Green Lantern's rings and keep them for a long time. Also Sinestro was able keep his ring despite becoming a dictator to his own world.

But here's one thing no one seems to be talking about, the fact that the ring seems to be driving King Shark crazy while's he's wearing it. Like I said he creates a giant shark and almost kills himself and the rest of the squad and when the ring is removed he goes back to normal and asks to never speak of this moment again (which is quickly becoming true subtitle of this game for most players and fans).

But watching this moment I actually asked, out loud to NOBODY, "Wait, that's not how that works, this isn't the One Ring from Lord of the Rings!" And made me ask if anyone writing this game ever read or watched ANYTHING related to Green Lantern because this moment makes no sense with someone who just a casual fan of GL. I've never really been that big of a fan of the Lantern books but I know enough to know that, well, to paraphrase Luke in The Last Jedi "Impressive, everything in this scene is wrong."

I just, what happened?! What was the train of thought that led us to this moment?!

No it's specifically about the Shark giving the lore the ring finger.

I mean it's stupid and lore breaking because they don't care. They don't about any of the characters or their lore.

Like, for example, killing Superman with bullets.

There's not really a story here.

I know full well this isn't how lantern rings work, and yet, this is genuinely the one thing I liked in the cutscenes I watched. It's hella, hella dumb and yet it's the kind of awesome comics scene that I can't help but appreciate. He does the oath, and I'm a total sucker for the lantern oath. He's the son of a god so sure I can buy he has the willpower to both get the ring on and to use it and maybe that divinity can help him shortcut the usual training needed to make that good a construct.

Though that praise ends right at when the big shark hits the shield. I have no clue why the shark turns on them, or why the ring doesn't fly off back to Oa after they get it off him.

Is it ever mentioned in the game if King Shark is a demigod? Like in a line said in the game and not the codex, (I'm assuming it has one).

Yep, right near the beginning when they're getting their various movement options, and he explains that he's already good to go.

It's fairly well established character-lore, that Nanaue is the son of the Hawaiian Shark-God, isn't he? He frequently goes up against heroes like Superboy, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Superman himself, wounding the Kryptonians with his bites even...

As for the Suicide Squad killing Superman with bullets... They're loaded with Kryptonite, golden Kryptonite to be specific. You know, the stuff that robs Kryptonians of their power, making them mortal...
