Is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes a Remake of the Original POTA Movie?

Post by Winter »

It's pretty obvious that the main human, Mae, of the upcoming Planet of the Apes film is not like the other humans, she's wearing a regular shirt, cargo pants, her a few screenshots she's clearly wearing boots and the statement that she is smarter then the other humans makes it clear that she's intended as this film's version of Taylor. She even has a scene that is based on a scene with Taylor from the original, hiding in the long grass from the Gorillas.

With that in mind, and the fact that the visuals of the film are more in line with the original movie, is this film intended as a remake of the OG POTA film but told from the perspective from the apes?

Obviously it's not an exact remake of the original as the main plot is more about the main antagonist trying to learn what the humans did instead of hiding that fact, it seems to be more of an action film instead of a political piece. And we clearly already know the backstory of this continuity so there is no surprise twist of this being Earth.

But then again, the original film is a pretty shit adaptation of the original novel so it's not out of the ordinary for this series to kinda re-write it's own history (hell the original film's continuity is pretty bad as they retcon the original origin in a way that contradicts the origins stated by the first film).

I'm honestly open-minded to this idea as this series was clearly not set in the original continuity so they are under no obligations to stay 100% loyal to the story of the original film.
