Was EDI from Mass Effect inspired by Eddie the shipboad computer

Winter's thread title reminded about something that struck me a while back.
Do you think that Hitchiker's Guide the Galaxy influenced the name of EDI from Mass Effect? It's something I never noticed playing the games, and being a massive fan of the books (well mainly the first two), the tv show, and mostly the radio show, but absolutely not the movie, I'm surprised how I never noticed until only fairly recently how similar the two names are for the two AI that run the two ships.
So yeah, do you think that EDI is merely rule 63 Eddie in disguise?
