Dragon Age: The Veilguard Trailer

Hm, not a great trailer gonna be honest.

Not as bad as some are making out but the tone for this doesn't mesh with the other trailers and videos we've gotten up to this point. The first trailer gave the impression that this was a grand epic which was backed up by the second and third trailer but this one feels more like a trailer for, and I hate to say it, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

What's weird though is this isn't out of place for Dragon Age as each game will have a trailer that doesn't line up with what the game is actually like. Case in point Ashes trailer for Dragon Age: Origins honestly sucks and isn't anything like the actual game with odd character models, the characters acting pretty differently from what we got in the final game and, oh yeah, the Warden is fully voiced and is really generic.

Dragon Age II's first trailer was also pretty misleading, giving the impression that the Arishok would be the main villain, that Isabella would be a major character and that we would actually be someone who matters. Honestly Inquisition is the only game to have a pretty honest first trailer with only thing being off is the idea that we would fight alongside all our companions during a major fight which never happens but that's small potatoes compared to the other trailers.

So, not a great trailer but it's not the only one we've gotten and most of the others have been pretty good. Nothing great but decent.

I will admit I'm not a fan of the new design for the Qunari of the game, who we now now is called Taash. I preferred the design the character original had this one just looks off but that could be because I've gotten use to the original concept art. Though given the change in the design to make the character look more masculine rather then the more feminine look that was originally saw I wonder if Taash is going to be non-binary. I'm okay with that but I would like to know now so I use the proper pronouns. For now I'll stick to she because that's what I'm use to using for the character but will switch over if I'm wrong.

Again not a great trailer but I'll reserve judgement until Tuesday when we get the gameplay reveal which will hopefully be a lot better. Generally speaking game demos go over a lot better then game trailers so I'll wait and see.

The art style is way more cartoony than any of the actual Dragon Age cartoons.

Actually just overall this looks like it's some kind of spiniff for small children. Hopefully just a bad trailer.

Well, according to people who helped play test it which includes Kala Elisabeth and Caitie (two content creators on YouTube who are fans of DA that I trust) say that the trailer is a very poor representation of the actual game and that it is dark, pointing to Tevinter Nights as a good indicator of the tone and mood the game will have.

And that book gets Dark! Like character ripping out her own eye because she's went mad from learning the truth about what was happening kinda dark.

And again Origins had a shit first trailer. I mean if that trailer was released today people would be tearing it apart and the only reason it gets a pass is because we know that Origins is a great game.

Time will tell what we really get but I'm hoping it's good because my dad was really looking forward to this game and I want to play it in memory of him.

I hate how little I care at this point.

Basically, Dragon Age was one of the best developed worlds in video game history and they just destroyed anyone who cared.

Like THE MASKED EMPIRE was the last decent thing written for the world.

Personally I LOVE Dragon Age: Inquisition. It's not only my favorite Dragon Age game but my favorite BioWare game. It was also one of my dad's favorite games as it was one he would often pick for me to play whenever I played a game for him so it holds great personal value to me.

It should also be noted that the people who've left the series who helped create it have been pretty positive on said game and one those same people is the one who called BioWare Magic Bullshit so this doesn't seem to be a case of just trying to maintain good relations with the company. Will it be great, no idea, but the fact that so many people who left the series are still giving it support gives me hope that this game has a greater chance then most seem to realize.

I'm hoping it's great because it was the game my dad was looking forward to the most and I want to play it in honor of him.

Two of them, actually. One is Cassandra's backstory and the other is original characters and set between DA3 and DA4.

DRAGON AGE INQUISITION isn't bad but I feel it moved out of the realm of "dark fantasy" into just fantasy with so much of the moral ambiguity of the first game being replaced by just Corypheus being EVIL (and he was a character that could have had a lot of depth but just constantly kicked the dog unnecessarily like planning on betraying his ex-slave lieutenant). I also felt like the masked ball section was both the best of Inquisition but also a downgrade from the novel.

Basically, I keep thinking, "DA should be more Game of Thrones and it keeps getting more Rings of Power."

I don't know I think there's plenty of Moral Ambiguity in DAI. Just to look at many of the main choices throughout the game. The game presents a case that picking the Mages over the Templars is the correct choices yet if you do side with the Templars you see the good people in that group and yet the game doesn't just disregard the terrible things the Templars have done.

The best example is of course, Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts where you're forced to pick between 3 people to rule a land of people who treat murder as a game. You don't even need to read The Masked Empire to see how horrible Celene and Gaspard really are, it's all there in the game. Gaspard wastes no time in blaming the elves just because they're there. Celene is stated to have committed genocide and Briala apparently just let it happened and wants to get back with the women who killed her family.

Adding the DLCs into the mix we learn that pretty much everyone on the surface is guilty of blood magic thanks to learning that lyrium is literally the blood of a titan. And that's not even covering Trespasser where we learn corrupt our own organization as become and the main choice put to the player is, "Will you give up all the power you've gained?"

For me, it's less a case of going from GOT to Rings of Powers (not exactly the best example BTW given how GOT ended) but rather going from Revenge of the Sith and The Empire Strikes Back to, A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.

I mean, it's not as extreme as what happened with Jak and Daxter where we went from a family friendly game to a game which opens with the main character getting tortured for 2 years and proclaiming his intent to kill the man who tortured him.

The fact they don't mention Briala's past with Celene is what infuriates me about that quest.

It's all in the book.
