Star Wars: Outlaws

So this is coming out at the end of the week, I thought it looked fun. Playing an underworld character who isn't a Force User and set in the height of the Civil War between Hoth and Endor, this is the game premise I've wanted since the 90s. Little axolotl puppy, snarky droid sidekick, all that good stuff. Hope it's good.

The main criticism I've heard (other than the weird ones like people who think the PC's haircut is woke or whatever) is that people are sick of the Ubisoft open world formula. That sounds fine to me since the last Ubisoft open world I played was AC: Black Flag and that's been a hot minute.

Anyone have thoughts on it?

Okay. I have been playing the early access. Graphics I cannot attest to. My graphics card is right between the minimum and recommended specs. All other bits I am into tier three for what can be done.

However, Kay is described as a young woman. She looks late twenties, early thirties to me. But is naive like a teen. She gets a mission early on I knew she was going to be betrayed in and I had a heart attack from not surprised when she was betrayed.

Nix is adorable, and a useful ally.

Stealth is a bit rough and the 'open' world is very restricted in where and how you may navigate it so far.
Design wise I am a little annoyed that you may not manually save for hours into the game. Having bought the preorder the cosmetics are not available to you till about the same time. I am not there yet. No side quests, just mission after mission. Do not mess up. Do not get spotted in a stealth portion, period.

For a Star Wars theme it feels right. Dirty, used with speeders and space ships considered common and kept together the way we do used cars. This is early in the game so I have issues fighting grunts. I do not want to tangle with Storm Troopers. And you know what? That is a good thing. It makes them feel like a genuine threat.

I won't be able to get on until the weekend, but that sure sounds promising.

But in the 90s wasn't that already the premise of Shadows of the Empire?

Technically yes but it was a generic console shooter with no plot, so didn't really scratch that itch.

Shadows of the Empire very much had a plot.

I just remember a boring Hoth level, a literal rail shooter on a train, and fighting Boba Fett for no given reason. It was so frustrating to play I never got very far.

I know there's a tie-in comic I never read that I think is where Black Sun was introduced?

Ok I've got some time in it now. Story seems okay so far and it's immersive in the setting which is what I was hoping for but wow is there a lot of traversal and stealth with only one path. Slows the pace down a crawl every time.

It also has an Assassin's Creed out of bounds. I went to see a merchant and it gave me out of quest area with a ten second count down to get back in bounds.

The stealth mechanic does seem to have a point however. It is a maze and one path gets you to the place you need. I wrecked my rep with that faction and had to sneak in again. They changed the guard routes and trying to get in the same way gets you caught.

Sounds like I'll wait for this to be on sale.
