Full disclosure, I hate the origins that the Aliens from the Alien series have been given though the Prequels created by Ridley Scott. I get what he was going for, I get that the idea that the Aliens, also called Xenomorphs, were biologically created was and still is the most popular idea but frankly... the excursion is shit.
It doesn't help that the films that included origins of the Aliens are the go to example of "Idiot Plot that thinks it's smart" because the characters in these films are among the dumbest I have ever seen (who thinks petting an alien that looks like a snake is EVER a good idea?!?!). But what makes me really dislike these films as the origins of the aliens is that it's so convoluted.
The aliens were created by these engineers only not really because they were actually created by this Mary Sue Android called David ONLY NOT REALLY because the most recent film suggests that the Aliens he created aren't related to what he created. And the aliens that created the Xenomorphs are also the ones that created us because this is now a Soup Opera and we and the Xenomorphs were secretly siblings the whole time and WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!
I had my own theory about the Xenomorphs which was that they weren't created in a lab but came from a plant that required them to evolve to be the way they are now. The ones we saw in the first film were found by the aliens we see in the first film. My understanding of the central ideas of this series is "Don't fuck around with shit you don't understand!" and I thought that applied to the Space Jockeys (the name for the Engineers before it was changed) as the one we see was obviously killed by one of the Xenomorphs. It tied into the idea that this was an alien race that should not be dealt with and that it was to dangerous to deal with safely.
Which is another thing that bugs me about the Prometheus films. A reoccurring theme is that these aliens cannot be understood or controlled and any attempt to do so will only result in your own destruction. Even the Alien vs. Predator films understood that and while that's still present in Prometheus it's completely abandoned in Alien: Covenant where we learn that David is able to safely study these animals and seems to have some control over them.
I hate this and it makes me pine and that fact that this is still in the series with Alien: Romulus just continues to infuriate me.
I'm not against the idea of exploring the origins of the monsters of the series but the fact of the matter is it was badly handled.

Re: Discussing the Origins of the Xenomorph
As Storyrant pointed out, Ridley Scott doesn't like the themes of the first movie by Dan O'Bannon.
O'Bannon created a universe that is incredibly hostile to humanity, indifferent, and larger than anything we could imagine. The Space Jockey is, from context clues, a trucker just like the Nostromo crew and transporting cargo that just so happens to be deadly to humans. You could even argue the eggs are food the Space Jockey is transporting. We're just unlucky enough to be far less capable of survival.
Ridley imagines the Aliens are the creations of Space Gods and Ancient Aliens with David as some sort of Lucifer figure who destroyed the gods then used their stolen power to make a weapon against humanity. The two races are Cain and Abel with all of the universe between them and their sires in the Engineers.

Caveat: The Space Jockey wasn't particularly survivable to the "food" he transported either apparently. He notably has an exploded chest. Something that is a very subtle hint to what happened to him.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 2:27 am O'Bannon created a universe that is incredibly hostile to humanity, indifferent, and larger than anything we could imagine. Yeah, don't eat eggs that are ready to hatch.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 10:41 amCaveat: The Space Jockey wasn't particularly survivable to the "food" he transported either apparently. I mean, I eat cows, but I think a cow could kill me.

The cow's life-cycle isn't dependent on bursting out of your chest though.

I will say this I don't like the idea of Xenomorphs being artificial beings, I perfer the idea of the universe being so big that there would be an environment where such adaptions would be needed.

Re: Discussing the Origins of the Xenomorph
Yeah, I hate everything that was introduced in Promotheus. I miss the Space Jockeys being these mysterious aliens rather than bland-ass humanoids. I miss the Xenomorph representing the inherent dangerousness of the natural world and outer space's indifference to the plight of humanity. I like Alien Ressurection better than anything that Promotheus did.

Re: Discussing the Origins of the Xenomorph
I never read the comics and only seen the movies.
Now with that being said, I was always comfortable with either the Space Jockey accidently finding them or them accidentally engineering them.
Their own reproduction cycle never bothered me. They killed some, they brought some to the hive. Or if they had no queen they just killed.
Queen lays an egg. The egg has some lifeform that needs to lay the xenomorph in another body. Seems like an extra step but if the xenomorph is the top of their food chain on their planet. It makes sense.
Though be kinda cool to see if xenomorph being a naturally evolved being on their planet whaf would be the counter. Such a being could overrun the planet so there would have be a counter that can equalize it all.
Maybe some ant like being impervious to their blood and maybe find nutrients out of it. Or maybe the xenomorph is the ant trying to attack big beasts.

I got nothing to say here.
