Discuss DS9's Final Season

We've done it hundreds of times before but here's a place to actually do it.

I'll start:

"Dukat is stupid as the Antichrist and should have been over after Waltz."

Okay I mentioned my points befoe but I'll throw in a new one.

Quark was utterly pointless in season 7 and that's a shame cause Quark is one of my fave DS9 characters period.

I think Quark has his moments. His Picard riffing is dang amusing and Shimmerman knocks it out the park. He's also amazing in Siege of AR-558 so there's that too.

Biggest problem is that the writers admitted that they ran out of time, meaning some characters like Jake are total afterthoughts, and it also didn't help that they did not use that time at all efficiently. Sure there's whole episodes they could have outright deleted like the baseball nonsense or Ezri and her mother, in favour of polishing up the final arc, but I'm talking having a long drawn out music montage in the finale while cutting out Garak's final scene which gave some much needed resolution to Cardassia.

And yet so much of it is so dang good. That's what makes it so rough, and that it is that very quality that makes the flaws become all the more blatant.

They probably would have had more time if they didn't have to rely on making Ezri episodes. Now don't me wrong I do like Ezri but I do think the final season would have been better if they kept Jadzia. I will put the blame on Berman for that.

While I am a baseball fan I do enjoy it, I feel it is pointless. Same goes for the Casino one.

Like I said before, if we are stuck with Dukat as the anti-Christ then they should have included Kira. She probably had more interactions with Dukat then Sisko if not equal. Dukat versus Sisko was more about opposed enemy Commanders. Kira versus Dukat was more about Bajor and more personal interactions.

Sisko and Kira versus Dukat and Winn.

I wish they'd killed Jadzia sooner in the episode where she's dying with Worf.

The Dominion War killing one of the group would have been a big sign it was not just an offscreen war.

Dukat was a great character because he was multifaceted. As was Sisko, for that matter; the guy who poisoned a planet just to fulfill a personal vendetta can hardly be defined as unambiguously "Good".
Took this off the other thread.

Well no. It wasnt really good versus evil.

However Dukat always wanted power, loved power, abused it etc. So to me it does make sense for Dukat to want that sort of supernatural power he would have from the Pah' Wraiths. So I mean it does fit. The whole wanting Bajor or the galaxy to burn isn't him though IMO. I would only see that if he was truly tainted by the Pah Wraiths.

The Pah'Wraiths never made much sense. Like we already have the Founders as evil gods who aren't gods, we didn't need another faction with a quarter of the backstory and a quarter of a quarter of a reason to exist.

Honestly they should have stayed as one offs. And left it as is.

The you could have left Dukat alone. I just don't know how you deal with Winn in the end though. Do you leave her alone or do create something for her for the final season?

Maybe it's Winn who does the Pah Wraith thing instead? Be their Emissary? I don't know just doesn't work.

DS9 did lean heavily to the Prophets in the later seasons. Maybe, you could make them less involved. Sisko isn't a Space Jesus but just a emissary to them and that's just that.

The destruction of the Defiant and Sisko gets a new one by the finale. Seeing the original Defiant getting destroyed was a gut punch as it should be. But we all knew Sisko would get another one. It just feels so off but I don't know why, for Sisko to get a new Defiant. Even if it was stated Ross would get him a new one.

I get it, they did that so they could reuse footage from Sacrifice of Angels and it makes sense for Sisko to be given a Defiant anyway. Though the way Sisko was in that war, he should have been put in a Galaxy class or even Sovereign class as a command ship. But that isn't the Sisko way. Gotta get in the middle of things.

I also feel it would have been cool for one of DS9's crew to be on at least one Romulan ship on some mission for an episode.

Oh! Martok and Worf! On a allied Klingon and Romulan mission. Maybe the most important mission of them all, to destroy one of two main cloning facilities. But those kind of episodes would end up getting repetitive by that point.
