I'm actually kind of amazed that Paramount went through with making this tbh. I personally do not know anyone, Trek fan or otherwise, who was looking forward to this.
It is quite frankly incredible just how different to the rest of Star Trek early DISCO is. Even SNW, which got its start here let's not forget, decided to follow the traditional style and tone as opposed to copying this. Abrams Star Trek looks and feels more Star Trek than early DISCO. It has aged poorly and its defenders have definitely gotten quieter as time has gone on for good reason as the likes of SNW and LD showed that traditional Trek absolutely can survive in modern day.
Emperor/Empress Georgiou is a relic of a show that just does not fit with Star Trek of yesterday, today or tomorrow.
And as an aside, the way that S31 was handled in DISCO is just appalling. There is absolutely no way that the S31 of ENT, DS9 and even Abrams Trek can exist in the same universe as DISCO S31. We're not talking about just a different make-up job for the Klingons here - giving S31 massive fleets of starships operating in the open is a fundamental plot hole that can only be explained by putting DISCO into a separate continuity. I mean ffs, Jadzia's previous hosts were ALIVE during this time period and she has no idea who they are.

So I spotted something else in there that just adds to my irked at prequels.
They had one of those guys with one half of his face in black face and the other half in white face. This was supposed to be basically an unknown species and gone by the time of Kirk not too long from now. But they were tossed in because 'Trek race'.

TOO BE FAIR, while I agree with you in how stupid that is... Trek LOVES the idea of a hundred alien races looking the same. We saw those weird not Vulcans in TNG. I'm surprised we never seen Not Klingons and Not Vulcans more... not counting Romulans. I mean, we have what, 50 different alien races that look 100% human with NO difference? Look at code of honor, what is alien about them beyond being all black? Or the alien race from Justice, is it that they're all white?

This looks like a decent generic sci-fi action movie that's inexplicably using Star Trek words.
That's my cope and I'm sticking with it.

I don't get why Discovery has to be seen as a monumental failure just because they came out with an updated template for the original series and Picard S3 was filmed to the brim with nostalgia. The show clearly was a foray into serial streaming epics meant to embellish the era of social media impacting social conventions. It wasn't supposed to be revered as a new direction for Star Trek or anything. And it really wasn't that bad to the end.

If that's what it was then it was either badly done or not what anyone wanted.

Wait Ijust realized something, the last Star Trek movie was Star Trek beyond, a good movie, if this movie is bad, then that would keep the pattern of every other star trek movie being bad going. How do you keep that going?

If STD had started in the future then no one would have cared. Even S31 could have been explained away by "it's the future".
But no. They had to make something that made no sense by continuity of literally any other show. And beyond this, we keep on calling this show "Discovery", when it should really be called "Micheal" aka Rey the Second AKA Sybok the Second.
Absolute disaster of a show made by a team who rejected what came before until they realised that they needed what came before and came slinking back.

It seems that going forward they probably should base future trek more on of all things lower decks than Disco.

I always felt Star Trek should have a constantly changing past due to all the time travel shenanigans and when DISCO showed its updated visuals, I thought they'd reference the Temporal Cold War and things like that to justify it.
I also thought ENTERPRISE was going to use this for the same and Archer's NX-01 was never meant to have gone on his fateful trip.
But no, then the producers went, "No, everything in the shows happened without time travel."
Strange New World DID canonize the sliding time scale but for other reasons.
