Silly Question Time: If You Could Pick One Fictional Billionare to be Real Who Would You Choose?

Post by Winter »

Me, I'm going with Scrooge McDuck. Protects his employees, fights off alien invasions, is a really nice person as soon as you get to know him, shares his great discoveries with the rest of the world. Cares for his family, even finds safe and renewable energy sources and often takes on other billionaires who lack his more moral backbone and humiliates them in fun and entertaining ways.

Also, he hires and helps create, directly and indirectly, superheroes. What's not to love?

Scrooge McDuck seems to have changed a lot, since the last time I had direct contact to the character.

Be that as it may: There are no fictional billionaires I wish would exist in reallife. You can't be both a good human soul and a billionaire. It's mutually exclusive and if a fictional billionaires were, then making him real would mean releasing him in a cut-throat environment that inevitably changes the character to the worse or end up with the person not being a billionaire. It would be self-defeating.

Well, except my great-grandmother. She was a genuinely good soul and at least once held several billion Marks in her posession during the early 1920s, but I doubt that's the kind of billionaire you had in mind. Besides that, her husband, my late dear great-grandfather, spent two years in Thuringia during the war, officially being asigned as a FlaK-helper, though strangely an off-hand remark from my granny, their daughter, revealed she had seen a letter tattoo'd on the inside of his upper left arm when they were out swimming, which apparently was his blood-group (granny was a nurse btw). Think you can work out from that, what he really did during his time in Thuringia...

David Xanatos. The real world needs a better class of villain.
One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars.

Dang lol, beat me to it. That isn't the Scrooge McDuck that I grew up with at all. My introduction to him was Ducktails the Movie where his whole motivation was to steal a horde of treasure from a foreign country in order to slightly increase his already huge horde of gold coins.

Bruce Wayne.

He is as Tony Stark said a billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. The philanthropist is the bit I think we need a little more of these days.

Since I'm currently binging the series: The Red Panda (his civilian name is a spoiler. It's a whole thing), Canada's Greatest Superhero!

An old-money gadabout from Toronto who weathered the Great Depression (his holdings were SO diversified, no single collapse could really touch him) who became a masked mystery man out of pure boredom... and took to it like a fish to water.

Now he's pouring everything he has into helping his city fight off gangsters, corrupt officials, and the occasional supervillain (also, later on, the Nazis). Partially to make up for what his family had to do to get THAT rich in the first place, but mostly because it's the most fulfilled he's ever felt.

For anyone interested (seriously, I've been hooked on these for the last week): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... e6ldoXt08V

Tony Stark. Even though he started off selling weapons he changed to developing new technologies. I also suspect he would straight up smack Elon Musk as an idiot.
I got nothing to say here.

Tony Stark would lack the inciting event in our world. He'd just remain the Tony Stark we see at the beginning of the first movie. Even if he'd be abducted by the Taliban, we'd end up with a self-indulgent jackass who thinks himself to be the king of the planet and sole arbiter about what is right and what is wrong at the end of that arc, except he'd have arc reactor technology at his hands. Guess what happens next with him in our reality. Lemme give you a hint: He needed an alien invasion to truely get his head out of his arse. That's not going to happen here...

The idea of this post is that you take a fictional character with all their character development intact. The idea is you can take one of these characters out of their continuity and bring them into our world with all their billions. In most continuities Tony remains a good person with an inflated opinion of himself. Furthermore there was always good in Tony, he's not a true narcissist because he repeatedly notes his own failings and flaws, which is something most narcissist would never do, even when faced with their own mortality they will still never claim responsibility for their actions and claim how much better they are.

Again the idea is that these character would retain their character development and the core of who they are not taking them as they were and assuming that the good in them doesn't exist.
