Modernism between the political camps

Post by BridgeConsoleMasher »

It's high time I make a thread about this...

How do you think modernism is achieved on a broad level on each side of the largely bipolar political spectrum? Have a thought on one of the other political interests? What are they??

Define "modernism", especially in this context.

Modernism the art movement that fell out of fashion in the 1960s?
One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars.

Hmm. Good questions everybody.

I would say Modernism as a precept to post-modernism. As in the postmodernism of today that rejects modern systems of development by institutions and politicians.

... I'm legit trying to figure out what you're saying. Do you have any examples of modernism you see or wish to see?
Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

I'm assuming modernism isn't the same as modernity, which leaves me in the "not sure what you mean" camp too.

OK let's say social media? Is that a good example?

I'm finally not the only one who just has no fucking clue as to what the flak he is talking about? Truely, this must be a good year.

Wanna bet, he actually meant moderism, as in "between the two political poles"?

Also, for the topic at hand: I don't think that the US-voters are nearly as bi-polar as the party-spectrum implies. I think the increased numbers of non-whites voting for Trump is a dead giveaway of people just being tired of this nonsensical "Democrats and Republicans being two right wings of the same party, except one being elitist and the other radical"-spiel. Another clear hint being, that a lot of the Trump-voters openly state, that they'd have voted for Sanders, if he had been on the table. There are very clear signs, that the US-voters are yearning for a third pole, which is getting denied because of flaws in the electoral system and the unwillingness of the "left" aka democratic establishment, to stop being Republicans in a bad disguise.

Indeed. As I have previously stated, I only vote Democrat out of self-preservation, as they are the party least likely to make being non-cishet a sex crime. This is a very low bar, of course.

If there was a genuinely viable progressive party in this country, I would get behind them in a heartbeat. But, it seems that no one is both willing AND able to meet that challenge. All of the funds/resources are locked down by the status quo corpos (Dems) and the torch-bearing cultists (Repubs/MAGA).

I'm willing to work for my place in this country. For my four walls, my three square meals, and my right to even exist. But I'm only one man who can barely keep his lights on. I'm do not know where to turn, at this point.

I'll just keep voting blue, because what else can I do?
