I mean, most people want comfort and safety, and sadly a huge number of people defer to authority, so you're never gonna see a majority rebel without extraordinary circumstances, and no doubt cultural factors also play a role.

So do you have the numbers? Syria pre-war had a population of 25 million people. I'm saying that if you had a sustained civil protest movement encompassing about 1-1.25 million people, that would have brought the Assad regime down. Was there such a resistance?
