Married With Children beat The Simpsons to the airwaves by a couple of years.
Why are men the ones to screw everything up in fiction?
Re: Why are men the ones to screw everything up in fiction?
It's historical. IRL, the vast majority of humanity's great mistakes were made by men.

I think in a sociological sense, men are traditionally depicted with agency that hinges on their choices while women are depicted more holistically in a humanistic sense. So consequences as a plot device is more likely to be showcased on the former.
..What mirror universe?

Probably 10000 years of creating most of the screw ups IRL had some influence on our fiction.

From John Turturro about his new movie featuring the character Jesus from The Big Lebowsi:
Subtle. It’s a bit of a racy movie. It shows how stupid men are. That’s what the movie is kinda about – the women are the stronger, more together characters. I had to tweak it a little bit but now I feel really good about it. It’s basically an exploration of Jesus getting out of jail. It’s a comedy but a very human comedy.
