This is more about self loathing than a observation of the human species anyway.
So what's with this prevailing idea in this thread that nihilism is inherently a bad thing? I'm an atheist. I believe there is nothing after you die but oblivion. There is no plan, no meaning, no design because everything is just a consequence of random chance put forth billions of years ago. Frankly, if you believe that there is no God or afterlife, then nihilism is just a natural link in a chain. The only thing that matters in life is what you do with it.
I think that is one of the reasons why religion has always been popular. It shields you from the truth.
