Apparently not a big fan of Metropolis or other similar movies. Or possibly conflating German expressionism with the propaganda movies that came out later.

I've never even seen Metropolis. And if you're referring to "propaganda," yes, that is part of it. But I'm not referring to WWII era propaganda.

Shame. You really should watch Metropolis - it's had such an influence on sci-fi.

What other propaganda then? And answer this please without trying to take a side-step. You put it out there yourself, now please have the decency to give a clear answer. Besides, you are missing out on a lot with that apparently dismissive attitude and there's a long list of really good movies that indeed pretty much starts with Metropolis.
