I'm more into history drama in general and in particular when it comes to korean TV shows. The last one I watched was:

"Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-Shin" (deservedly titled as such, this man's accomplishments are beyond belief). Takes a little too many liberties to tell the story though. And since I just wrote it, I should watch "Roaring Currents" again.

Was it nuanced or romanticized? He was a rare honorable man but he would do some crazy shit that would be seen as insane by today's Western standards.

You know who the guy is in my sig with his back turned to you?

Desperate times create desperate measures is all I can say to your last sentence. And he got away with all of it, only to die in the very moment of his final triumph. A perfect and tragic history for a perfect and tragic story.

As for the question of nuanced or romanticized, I suppose it is aimed at the series? Both, it is a TV drama series after all. It takes some liberties with history to create more drama or interpersonal depth, e.g. they create more of a hero's journey arc and start Yi out as a frail and weak boy or how they characterize Won Gyun, who as you are probably aware, was a complete piece of shit in reality (as far as we know). Won Gyun gets away much better, being in the position of a nominally competent person whose hot temper gets him screwed over and makes him screw over Yi in particular.

I've seen this picture before, but I can't put it in context.

Does the Admiral have a huge epic and important love story or love triangle?

Is there a lot of love song playing and the camera swooning over a face for 2 minutes?

Not as far as I am aware, but it's korean theatrics, so there's that.

Is this a serious or ironic question?
