A good amount of people are familiar with this phenomenon I feel, so I thought I'd make a thread for it. The most obvious one I will get out of the way first:

Armageddon / Deep Impact
Another one is Friends w/ Benefits and No Strings Attached.

Go on...

The virus at the end might end up qualifying this, but these movies are rather dislocated temporally.

Oh hell don't listen to me on this. The pair is valid. But you should pay respects to Lindsay Ellis in my decision to allow it.

And only this pair (so far), upon condition.

Well since Independence Day is pretty much 90's take on War of the Worlds (there were movies based on that book before Steven Spielberg version) so them changing biological virus into computer virus was little clever for it being Roland Emmerich movie.

Well that is clever, but in general I feel like direct influences kinda disqualifies it as a "doppelganger."

With NSA and Fw/B, I feel like they purposely did that for Kutcher and Kunis (they were either still together or not idunno), but the sheer audacity to intentionally do that for an overlying premise about casual sex is bold.

Do we want intentional or unintentional copies?

If Intentional: then 'The bulk of the output from The Asylum'. 'Atlantic Rim', anyone?
