Even VGF seems mostly dead now.

For people who enjoy threaded, meaningful conversations, no.
Trolls and attention-seekers have largely gone elsewhere, but they're ill-suited to fora anyway, so no great loss. Dumpster-fire generators like Twitter and Discord work great for people with very little to say, so let them have it.

Pretty sure TrekBBS is still active.

Very active. That board is amazingly busy.

For everything I said about people moving to 4chan and Reddit, forums like this seem to have gone the way of small town malls or agricultural life in Interstellar.

Well, Board Game Geek (2000) is as lively as ever, SJG (Descendant of the 1985 vintage Illuminati BBS) forums are doing OK, and though I don't really visit them, Something Awful (1999) and GameFAQs (1995) are doing OK in Alexa rankings.

Serebii.net is also quite active, with over 100,000 members. But then, Pokemon is a massive cultural phenomenon and Serebii.net has been a source for Pokemon news since the late 1990s. Of course they'd have more members than a niche of a niche reviewer. No disrespect to Chuck, of course, but he is one man reviewing many things instead of one particular subject even if he's most known for Trek/Voyager, thus that gets him less viewers than those more mainstream forums. Besides, Chuck is doing quite well financially. Have you seen his Patreon? He has a lot of small but dedicated fans.
