What @Bestro said to me really did help and I had no reason to continue. And everything I said that offended people, I disown and am glad they are removed from the forum.

Curious what point you're referring to that he said.

Rather anticlimactic.

Well I forget most of it too and just went to check on the post only to see the thread gone.

The main thing is if the news, current events, politics, or anything in general are fucking your mind up, ignore them. Your mental health isn't worth it and the world won't suffer because one person turned away to save themselves. I left an infamous RPG site over a year ago because I just got sick of the bloody negative, edgy and antagonistic attitude most had there. I fight with negativity myself and I realized that place wasn't doing anything in my battle against it. It's a shame because it's a damn good place with conversations and insights I never got anywhere else.

I told my old lady neighbour the same thing. Having CNN on when not watching anything else was driving her nuts. She avoided the channel and a week later wandered back onto it surfing. Within 5 minutes she said her heart was pounding again like it hadn't been since she started taking my advice.

Same thing with some friends I had on Taylor Swift's message board long ago. The Boston Bombing happened and one particularly neurotic girl from Virginia freaked out about it. She asked a mutual friend on the site from Ohio what she felt and the second girl said it was just a piece of news to her like anything else she heard. The first girl ripped into her about how callous and uncaring she was. How dare she not be upset over this event? I stepped into the group chat and asked the first girl about other recent news events just as tragic and how she felt about them, then told her that if we got broken up about every horrible event happening on the earth we'd always be heartbroken. There is a whole world of suffering out there and it isn't wrong for someone to just see that bombing as just news.

I mean, what a 15 year old girl thinks on the matter won't change anything (especially given all the crap that particular girl was battling in her own life as she struggled with a history of physical and sexual abuse during this period).

We all hate indifference in the world, but caring too much often causes just as many problems. Us bleeding mentally over the ills of the world does no one any good. Especially if you're young, DBF. With puberty you get the desire to really change the world that outstrips your ability to do so. It's not a bad thing, but it can make you grasp for things you aren't yet equipped to carry in life.

And there was something else about you needing to be mindful of your autistic tendencies. If you hyper focus, distract and find something else to focus them on that won't hurt you. Even then, you need to stop doing things like watch cartoons and nitpick them for how they relate to the above issues like politics. I know that can be VERY hard, I'm highly analytical myself and am struggling to find my off switch for it because I need to learn to relax better than I am. I'm driving myself into the ground just working and studying and feeling like a stiff board just wanting to work and study more when at parties.

I'm happy that what I wrote helped. Thank you for letting me know that.

Is it the one that ends in .net?

Good for you. There's a difference between running a site and exulting in power over it, and those people are busy creating their own little hell. The quality of some of the content there is matched only by the dominance games between the staff and certain favored posters, and you've shown remarkable sense in leaving - more than I did, certainly.

Naw, one even worse than that and bad enough the forum prides itself on that fact :the rpgcodex.

Their motto is "does not scale to your level".

It felt like being in school again with how antagonistic most everyone was trying to be only with lots of interesting conversations about religion, philosophy, typical political BS everywhere today that I'm tired of..... and lots and lots of antisemitism thanks to the high East European and South America concentration of posters. They are so much like Sseth Tzeentach in that way the site's convinced he's just one of the regular posters incognito.

I lament sometimes leaving because some of the conversations (and drama) were great. Of note was how much of the antisemitism talk was just talk. One of the admins is Jewish and gets ribbed for it all the time but not once has anyone ever demanded he be removed, which I found very very interesting.

Pop over and check out some thread's you'll see what I mean. Just be happy you can't see GD that's locked before a years time spent on the forum.

I still feel like there is a toxicity problem in the left that's being ignored and wile I still want to distance myself from politics, I feel like I should do or say something about it and the fact that there is actually unwarranted antagonism towards the police happening.
