TV-366 Star Trek Reviews

Post by TV-366 »

Since other people seem to link to their blogs on here, I decided I'd give it a shot as well. But to avoid constantly spamming this site, I'll probably post in blocks of four to six episodes, or whenever it seems to be most appropriate.

Today, the Dominion Occupation arc;

It seems that DS9 got on a kick of alternating humor with serious episodes for a while there. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that the comedy episodes were generally stronger than the serious ones.

With the exception of the first episode, this particular block of episodes is all about introducing important elements into the show late in the game, like a lounge singer, a secret organization, or a complete willingness to go where no Star Trek had gone before.

Season Seven starts off by resolving the cliffhanger of Season Six, introducing and establishing a new/old character, and then putting us at our ease by playing baseball. Hey, don't knock it till you've tried it.

In the last set of episodes before the final push, the writers jump all over the place. We say goodbye to the Mirror Universe, solve a murder mystery, set up a few things for the finale, and (my personal favorite) go on a heist. The execution is hit or miss, but when they hit, they hit a grand slam.

I wrap up my look at Deep Space Nine with the final story arc. Short version; it didn't play out as I'd initially remembered, but it still ultimately worked for me just fine.

I'll be moving on to less sci-fi TV shows for awhile, but I'll be back in December with another show that fits the bill. In the meantime, I'll see if I can pop up in the review discussions here and there on this forum. Looking forward to it on all counts.

As promised, I've returned to reviewing sci-fi. Sci-fi I know I'm in direct opposition with SFDebris about, though I sometimes agree with him on it in places. Practice your curtseys and hide your medical records, because I'm reviewing, and mostly defending, Star Trek: Enterprise. Also enjoy the bonus feature that was directly inspired by our host.
