sfdebris nu trek

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Doesn't matter; we're talking about a fictional situation. When critiquing, people judge from a real world context. It doesn't matter whether love potions are legal within the world of Harry Potter, people judge them from the real world context.

That, and they judge it based on how much care it's handled with. The Orville handled it as a punchline and a half-assed way to repair Grayson's character. If they took it seriously, I don't think the episode would be held in such poor regard.

If an attractive human flirts with another human, and arousal causes the flirtee's rational decision making to become impaired, is that coercion?

What if we're talking about a human flirter and an alien, and we're on the alien's world where their laws apply?
By your logic roofies are okay. sit down and think about that for a while.

No, by my logic roofies are NOT okay. Sit down and *think* for a while.

The problem with the episode arises when the crew consciously and intentionally duplicates the pheromone and uses it to stop a war. THAT is mind control, undue influence, drugging people into sex - the whole nine yards. If they hadn't done that, there wouldn't be anything in the episode to object to.

He’s been living with aliens for years. They lose control over themselves every time he goes into heat or whatever it was. I do not believe that no one investigated this, that no one told him it was wrong. I don’t care about what is normal for his race and culture. He’s not living among his people. He’s a rapist. He knows he is a rapist, and so long as he doesn’t get in trouble, he’s going to keep raping people, playing the “I didn’t know” card whenever he is caught.

Ed probably didn’t arrest him because he was ashamed. He was also confused by what happened. It felt consensual at the time. He thought it was his choice, only to learn that it wasn’t. It’s probably easier to process if he just tells himself that it was his choice.

The same goes for Kelly, and it probably ruined their marriage. That Mr. Rapist wouldn’t tell her is disgusting. How can she or Ed even process that? If the guy wasn’t in heat, then she knowingly cheated on Ed, and nothing changes. If he was in heat, then they divorced because she was raped, and they only now know it. They have a right to know what happened.

But yes, I admit the thing I'm looking forward to most from Chuck is LOWER DECKS and PICARD.

DISCO 3 would also be cool.

I'd like to see his take on the shift to the 40th century.
