Heart-felt emotion, actual tension, Predacon opportunism, character development. This episode has it all. :)
I'm one of those that actually prefers Blackarachnia's Transmetal version over her original appearance, though. Just felt more sleek (refined?) to me as a '90s kid, and the upgrade overall making her even more dangerous to her foes.

Fun fact: this story was written by the late Star Trek legend DC Fontana.
As for Blackarachnia's design, my guess regarding her "sleeker" TransMetal 2 form is that her original design is a heavily modified design from her original toy, which was a repaint of Tarantulas's original toy. Though her TM2 toy was... chonky... and had some... large shoulder pads.
