These Lower Deck reviews
These Lower Deck reviews
Chuck is doing condensed reviews of Lower Decks. Is he giving up on reviewing Lower Decks in individual form like others? Because it seems like it is.
I got nothing to say here.
Re: These Lower Deck reviews
I think these are more of a supplement to the previous reviews now that Lower Decks has ended.

Re: These Lower Deck reviews
Hopefully Chuck will do this with all of the previously completed LD, DISCO, SNW and PIC reviews going forward. I understand why he never rated them before because of his policy of only rating them to themselves rather than comparing them to other shows (lets be honest if he did that then DISCO would be in negative numbers compared to something like Best of Both Worlds or In the Pale Moonlight lol).
But I am interested to know which of these episodes that he thinks are better than the others. I tall task to be sure.

Oh I didn't catch that.

I'm not sure about the other series; SNW isn't finished (yet), and DISCO and PIC are rather tight bound together. I imagine that if he did rate those series, he'd have to rank them like Babylon 5, where importance and quality are separate ratings.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri May 16, 2025 6:01 am Hopefully Chuck will do this with all of the previously completed LD, DISCO, SNW and PIC reviews going forward.

One of my main hatreds of the streaming era is the death of episodes, as now shows feel like really long movies. Discovery has this problem but Picard is FAR worse in that regard, especially season 2. Hence, it's hard to judge an episode vs another when they are telling basically, one long story and you can't just sit down and watch an episode to enjoy it.TGLS wrote: ↑Sun May 18, 2025 8:01 pmI'm not sure about the other series; SNW isn't finished (yet), and DISCO and PIC are rather tight bound together. Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

I second this. I miss the era of episodic TV. You got complete stories with a beginning, middle and end which you could generally watch in any order.Nobody700 wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 2:33 pmOne of my main hatreds of the streaming era is the death of episodes, as now shows feel like really long movies. ''Filler content'' with these newer shows is 10X worse than it ever used to be because you had to condense when you only had 45 minutes per show. If you had too much time left over that was a sign that your story sucked more than anything else.

Was it really, though?
Think about all those Ferengi episodes, episodes about Dax's love life, and whatnot where it seemed like the entire episode was filler.

I like the Ferengi episodes, or at least most of them. When you have 26 episodes a season, you will have filler episodes and DS9 was pretty good at them. They may not have resorted to clipshow episodes (where as far as I can tell only Stargate SG-1 manages to do well), but those filler episodes in DS9 did help with furthering character development. Again, 26 episodes in a series that was someelehat serialized but yet episodic (until the last two seasons).Durandal_1707 wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 6:54 pm Was it really, though?

Whereas if you have anywhere between 8-12 episodes, a filler episode becomes very apparent. Again may not be an issue if they do it well, but a series like Picard, Discovery or equally like The Expanse, it could also be a waste of time and money. An indication their story isnt enough to fully fill out a season.
I got nothing to say here.

Yeah. Compare how the Fly episode of Breaking Bad sticks out against it's 13 episode season, which is literally a bottle show filler episode.
