So, in the decade of Leonardo Di'caprio in Titanic, Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye, Richard Gere in Pretty Woman, and Will Smith in Men in Black; Garrett Wang got voted sexiest man alive? Or is this a joke that I am not recognising? Because otherwise... WTF?

He was voted into the 50 Most Beautiful People by the People Magazine in 1997. When the producers decided to axe a character, Wang being voted into that list made the difference between him and Jennifer Lien.

Honestly though, cutting Wang is generally a bad idea, no matter the circumstances.

Bull. Harry as presented added nothing to the show. I'm not saying he couldn't have been done differently or that Wang is inherently bad, but Kes had far more potential as a character and I personally liked her a lot more.

You don't like Wang? You should have a talk with your girlfriend. Maybe she can explain to you, why Wang is great.

Mystery to me. I'd have picked Beltran over Wang, but of the VOY cast back in the day it would be Robert Duncan McNeill who had the look (what he looks like now, who knows). Although I will note that, like Patrick Stewart, Robert Picardo has only gotten sexier to me as he has aged. I think back then though I was still in my George Clooney phase though.

Hmm, although, casting my mind back, when talking about genre stars and Patrick Stewart aside, you know who really did it for me? Richard Chaves from the old and incredibly goofy War of the Worlds tv series, the one that was supposed to be a sequel to the George Pal movie but somehow nobody actually believed in aliens. Does anybody know if Chuck has been asked to review either of those?

OH! There's also "Homeward," which was a good episode despite the Prime Directive. Hell, as the last Prime Directive episode left (it is the last, yes?), it should be fun just for the novelty of watching Chuck tear it apart for the umpteenth time. Mufufufufufufu...

Vic Fontaine on the other hand never became anything more than a singer. Oh, they tried to CLAIM that he was more than that, but I do not agree. I think that he is far below them in terms of free will.

Data is an interesting case because he is a robot designed to act like a man - so we could say that his desire to want to be a man is perhaps not a sign that he is alive. And he never really moves beyond this. Lore on the other hand has shown more individuality than Data ever did.

Which is why this is a good test, but not a perfect one. Vic could definitely still be alive and content to be what he was created to be. The same can be said for many humans. For others, not as much.

Data's a great counter-example, too.

But yeah, some continuity would be nice, as Chuck pointed out, this episode's HR drama makes basically zero sense. In particular, this episode is after "Living Witness", which established that Voyager found a way to keep regular backups of The Doctor, but it's never brought up again despite any number of times this would have been terribly helpful.

Unfortunately Living Witness took place at some indeterminate future date, meaning that we have no way of knowing when that capability was acquired -- the implication was "later". Additionally, given Janeway's meddling in Endgame, it's possible that it will now never happen - a sort of retcon the showrunners almost certainly didn't intend or consider.

Anyone see that Simpsons episode where Bart has a short fantasy about being resurrected in the future and the human race wants to make him their new God because he knows how to play with a yo-yo?

This is what this episode reminded me of and it doesn't feel any less silly.
