Kindof surprised Chuck didn't mention the continuity hiccup with Waspinator and Tarantulas arriving at the battle twice. Now that I know about it, I have to wonder if the Inferno Megatron head swap was an inside joke about how Hasbro wanted them to change Megatron into an ant. No idea why they wanted that change mid season one, best guess is some dumbass looked at the Megatron Barney stuff and considered it a serious problem.
I said before that transmetal Megatron is probably my favorite look for the character but transmetal Optimus is my least favorite for him, mostly down to the eyes in robot mode; they're one solid color so it makes him less expressive.

Ya know as much as Chuck seems to get creeped out by Tarantulas's serial killer tendencies I wonder how he'll react when he comes into the picture.SpacePaladin wrote:"Otherwise, the Maximals were transporting one sick guy around in their cargo bay."

It would be nice if just sometimes the character with the southern accent wasn't stupid and violent.
Re: Beast Wars: Coming of the Fuzors Part 1&2
I really like the opening of the first one. It was a big moment when you realized that the makers of the show were trying their best to make something, *gasp*, mature and adult thematically that would rise above being a simple kids show while remaining a kids show.
It was tantalizing to see in the bits that came out. Makes me wish a kids show would be allowed to go full bore in that direction without anything kiddy in it, like how despite Exosquads maturity, it still felt like a kids show.
The opening also had some neat bits of prolonged action that were slow and subtle, like Dinobot grabbing Waspinator and Waspy getting booted out of the trash compactor, bouncing around only to collide with Tarantulus' body when so much of animation and how it cut together was still very 90s. You get the feeling the animators knew it was an important scene and went the extra mile make it appealing to watch in every way.
Also, Dinobots grin at seeing Waspinator in the force field never gets old. The guy's been around Maximals for awhile, but he's still a Pred.
I also noticed him do a couple Yesssss'es like Megatron over the course of the first part, but in a way that didn't stand out. Kinda shows a bit of why he and Megatron might have gotten along for him to have become his lieutenant both loving to mull over their plotting.
At least Megatron never used his roller skates again besides one or two bits of comedy, IIRC.
What makes Dinobot such a great character is he always remains a Predacon, like I said above, but one that is wise enough to know what kind of fire that is in Megatrons hands and that he works with the Maximals specifically to stop him. Hell, in the end it eventually hits Dinobot that even Dinobot shouldn't have that power.
That is what's interesting in the way he sacrificed himself. He didn't do it idealistically to protect early Man, he did it to prevent Megatron from going wild on changing history. He is pretty much a bad, nasty guy but one with a conscience that can recognize true evil and is decent enough to rise above who he is to do some good.
I see that subtext within the thematically warrior-centric attitude of that episode and how much he himself contrasts with the citizen-soldierly spirit of the Maximals, which if that sounds odd, go search around for what Google brings up when you punch in Aeneas and Achilles .
I think it also shows a lot of depth to the dichotomy of the two machine races and that you can see that somewhere within them they are not intrinsically Good and Evil respectively, but two related and very different cultures tied at the hip, and maybe that is why they are so black and white. Preds free of the Maximals would remain conquering, prideful jerks like Dinobot, but the Megatrons that eternally pick the wound they have over their relationship with the other side would have less of a reason to exist.
It's for the same reason that I liked how Beast Wars recast G1 Megatron as something of a patriot fighting for his people, and for the wrong reasons to do so, in a historical conflict rather than a simple cartoon villain.
The robot Optimus face has more problems than just the eyes, it's altogether rather plain and lacking in an aesthetic that works with that.
I really did not like Dragon Megatron, most of all how his skin hugged his face.
I also felt it kind of derivative of that fantasy trope of "flesh armour", like from Blood Omen:
Hell, the only real thing he does throughout the series is be the guy that pilots Optimus when he's infected and he only did due to the conveniences required for the plot to work as they wanted.
In the end he was just another Inferno without an interesting personality.

Insane as well in the Megatron way.But once he found out history COULD be changed, that meant things were NOT fixed, and so it meant that knowing key points of history in advance and being able to alter them was insanely useful... *especially* because the disk actually updated in response to the changes.

The beast mode ones are worse. I think the problem is the ink blue and dark red colour scheme of the face and eyes. They can work on flags, but for most things they just wind up really clashing coming off garish despite being so dark.I said before that transmetal Megatron is probably my favorite look for the character but transmetal Optimus is my least favorite for him, mostly down to the eyes in robot mode; they're one solid color so it makes him less expressive.

I don't like Quickstrike either. He's the only one in the series who had completely no character development, even Airazor had something about her in her first episode about trying to save her with the insight into what Sparks are, then her short, rushed relationship with Tigertron. Quickstrike just shows up and fits right into the Preds without distinguishing himself in ways even Scorpinock and Terrorsaur did, and Rampage later would.DisgruntleFairy wrote:It would be nice if just sometimes the character with the southern accent wasn't stupid and violent.

To be fair, it's Waspinator, so that's not a good metric of how much Pred someone still is; even Jesus or the Bhudda would grin at seeing the universe crap on Waspitaor againBeastro wrote: Also, Dinobots grin at seeing Waspinator in the force field never gets old. Its nothing to do with being a Predacon. We learn in another episode that Rattrap has a collection of Waspinator parts!

I think the writers were going less for "stupid Southern hick" and more "Old West gunslinger" when they came up with Quickstrike's accent. Of course, Quickstrike pretty much ended up being another version of Waspinator, with more Leeroy Jenkins tendencies, so...DisgruntleFairy wrote:It would be nice if just sometimes the character with the southern accent wasn't stupid and violent.
