The Guyver Review

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

I wonder if Chuck would enjoy the anime more.

I am kind of surprised that this movie comes off as, "The goofy kills it".
Maybe I am more accepting of goofy?

I think that is a certainty but admittedly that is a low hurdle.

Dammit. I was hoping this would be a MacGuyver review! :)

I think the best description I've ever heard of this film came from the Something Witty Entertainment crew on one of their game streams, where a one of them said this movie 'feels like an extended episode of the Power Rangers yet it's shot like Tim Burton's Batman'. That's pretty accurate.

Poor David Gale, this was one of his last movies. Poor Michael Berryman, first he gets cut completely from The Crow, and then he's in this thing (and seriously, he's a great and underrated actor who deserves more credit). And Jimmy Walker...eh, anything is a step up from Going Bananas. And Mark Hamill...well, quite frankly he got off pretty easy here compared to what happened in December of 2017.

And seriously, say what you will about this movie, but when you have Screaming Mad George doing the effects, he will deliver.

And to be honest, this is about on the same level of writing quality as The Last Jedi, yet it doesn't feel like there was malice behind it like that movie had. And at least Mark Hamill didn't milk the crotch-tits of one of these monsters, so it has that over TLJ.

I love how somehow this franchise manged to rope in Luke Skywalker/the Joker (Mark Hamill) in the first and the Solid Snake (David Hayter) in the second.

Or sequel staring David Hayter in that matter.

Honestly this is making me imagine Chuck reviewing tokusatsu stuff like Kamen Rider or Super Sentai. (favoring ones that are more on the Scifi side of course.)

I found Guyver 2 to be the better movie

strictly because it knows what tone it wants

TMNT knew its tone, and also had better choreography
