Superman - The Last Son of Krypton

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

The comics have explained why Kryptonians haven't really left their planet. I don't think this show ever does though

As much as DC likes superman to try to be humane, I get this weird and hateful feeling that sometimes he boasts his godlike powers to people. Sups was written by two Jewish guys and they didn't take well of how DC abused Sups powers in the golden age comics, WTF did you give him the power to destroy galaxies. With a fucking SNEEZ!?

Well, they never gave him that power. When he debuted, he wasn't as strong as DC would make him in the 60s and 70s

I kind of always marvel at how efficiently this show establishes so much.
Krypton being destroyed is a tragedy, Lois is fiery, the action moves, and Superman perfectly captures the alienation of having so much power and the nobility of using for good ends.
It sets up three villains with Lex, Brainiac, and Metallo (tho you don't know that one till later in the series).

I love the art style which I think Bruce Timm attributed to borrowing from Jack Kirby, but I think it looks better than Kirby's designs because of how sleek it has to be for animation. I love Art Deco and Zeerust/Ray Gun Gothic designs, and this show has that in spades.

I'm curious what you're referring to. I don't remember him bringing it up in the review.
About 35 second in he says "it had after all been some time since the superman movie came out, and it wasn't good in the first place".

I'm pretty sure he was referring to Superman 4, as at the time it was the most recent Superman movie and is notoriously bad.
Could be, though I wouldn't refer to Superman 4 as "the superman movie," and superman 4 didn't deal with his origin so I don't see why it would be brought up when talking about his origin.

Eh, probably just vague wording.

Sidenote, did Lex call the mech the "lexosuit" cause that's arrogant even for him.

I'm theorizing when chuck reviews Man of Steel after "Last Son of Kryton", he is going to sound a bit drunk from the "Jesus-imagery". I did the same but eating hard-tacts on a dare.

Since I spoke the words quickly, I can understand the confusion, let me correct this: "it had after all been some time since A superman movie came out, and it wasn't good in the first place".

drewder wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:25 pm One thing that's always confused me is that the kryptonians seemed to know that going to a yellow sun would turn them into some sort of race of supermen yet didn't leave previously. They're portrayed as one of the most advanced civilizations in history so they obviously had the technology. As advanced as they were they should have spread out into the galaxy and the destruction of krypton although tragic would have been a minor setback.
Most of my life I looked at that and thought it was nuts. "They have the science that says their planet is doomed, why don't they do SOMETHING?"

And then I look at out current climate crisis and well...

Nah, all of Bruce Timm's women look pretty much identical. Look at them in black and white, then take off the haircuts and you can't tell any of them apart unless they're old or a villain. The men get way more variety.

That's not just a Bruce Timm problem, you see it throughout the animation and comics industry, but same-face is pretty bad in his case with the simplified art style.

See now I hear the "a" but before I swear you said the. Guess this makes this your "one small step for man" moment.
